Step counting

I'm thinking of doing Shelter's Step Forward challenge (stepforward.crisis.org.uk/) in March because I might actually manage to be more active if it's not just for me. But I need a pedometer or some other way of counting my steps. I know there are apps for this but I don't always have my phone with me. More importantly, I want one that will clip on to my clothes rather than one I have to wear like a watch. Cami anyone recommend one that's teasingly accurate but not too expensive?

That last sentence should read:

Can anyone recommend one that's reasonably accurate but not too expensive?

Bloody autocorrect. Bloody popups obscuring the box.

I want to suggest that you calibrate it. whatever pedometer you get, walk 100 steps & see what the counter did. Do this exercise 10x and see what the average % difference is : we had an activity tracker that was on avg 15% over. So if the pedometer said 10,000 steps I assumed the real number was 8500 steps. Not sure you'll get any kind of accuracy otherwise.

On the website it says "You can link your online giving page to your Fitbit, Strava or Map My Fitness account or manually log the distance you travel on your page." I would just use an app on your phone to log your steps - and for those other walks where you don't have your phone, just guess the steps based on the distance you can see on google maps. I do about 3,000 steps in a mile, so if I did a 3 mile walk I'd manually enter 9,000 steps which would be sufficiently accurate. I wouldn't buy a pedometer just for the challenge.
