Running briefs to combat chafing!

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 19/01/2020 21:41

I need help! I ran about 6km yesterday and the thigh chafing HURTS! I've literally rubbed my inner thighs raw. Ive got a 5km muddy run on Saturday so I need recommendations for pants/briefs whatever that cover the top thigh area and don't roll up. Extra marks available if I can purchase these before mid week so I can test them before Saturday.

I've tried wearing normal men's pants today but they ride up and the chafed area is still rubbing.
Long term obv I need to lose weight, hence the running, I'm trying!! I'm currently a size 14.

Are you wearing legging to run in? Don't they protect the tops of your thighs?

trilbydoll · 19/01/2020 21:51

I wear normal knickers and leggings/shorts from decathlon. What's caused the chafing, were your leggings falling down so a seam was in the wrong place?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 19/01/2020 21:58

I think the saggy granny pants I usually wear were down a bit, I had to keep hoiking them up. I had leggings on over the top but they kept rolling down. I look so glamorous Blush

Leggings/shorts with a drawstring to keep them up. And if they stay up they should keep your underwear up with them!

Runderwear and leggings with a drawstring...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/01/2020 22:02

Maybe go commando while you are healing?

trilbydoll · 19/01/2020 22:02

I'm size 12 btw so not much smaller. I usually have my shorts pulled right up above my belly button Grin I wear men's tshirts so noone can tell!

Athrawes · 19/01/2020 22:02

Don't wear underwear. Just leggings.

TriSkiRun99 · 20/01/2020 14:53

Yep run commando and if need be use Vaseline or sudacream on bits that may rub. Look for running leggings with a gusset like a diamond shaped bit of fabric in the crotch.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 21/01/2020 11:48

I found once I got properly fitting leggings this problem disappeared.

runlift · 21/01/2020 11:53

Definitely you need legging with a drawstring pulled fairly tight. Probably helps if the leggings are on the tight rather that loose side.

Veterinari · 21/01/2020 13:47

I run commando, but you need leggings that don't slide down

AuntieStella · 21/01/2020 13:58

a) for the pants: Runderwear are the known brand, but they are terrifically expensive. Uniqlo seamless microfibre are pretty much the same thing, as far as I can tell.

b) BodyGlide - best anti-chafe product ever

c) for running shorts: try Decathlon own brand - good kit and easily best VFM

BusterTheBulldog · 21/01/2020 16:28

Another vote for commando! I have the decathlon running pants but still chaffe on my bum in winter.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 25/01/2020 21:44

100% never running commando (unless I had to, fire in the swimming pool while I'm changing kind of scenario), however I had my mud run today and wore normal pants with new leggings and it all stayed up much better. At least I didn't flash my arse to the whole course! Thank you all for your advice, I'll look at Runderwear for the next one :)

I have Decathlon running pants.
My second choice is big, stretchy close fitting pants from Morrisons, but I'm sure there are plenty like that around.

I'm a pear shape so need good rear coverage so my derierre doesn't keep eating my undergarments.

Sadly commando is not an option when faced with a sprint finish!

Imnotreadyforthis · 26/01/2020 20:46

I use victorias secret seemless ones, but more than anything shat halps is plenty of vaseline!
