Hi
Seen in Ideal World a Vibropower Hiit Plate with resistance bands advertised. Having looked on Argos, these seem to have good reviews. I'd welcome your reviews/recommendations? Do you lose weight? Lose inches with healthy diet etc. Thanks

There’s one of these at my gym. Sometimes people stand on it or something. It seems really pointless. Do some proper exercise!!

Runningonempty84 · 19/01/2020 20:44

Totally pointless. Just do some exercise...

tadpole73 · 19/01/2020 23:10

Dorabelle & particularly Runningonempty84 as you're obv experts in exercising, what would you suggest for someone with COPD ? Running ?!!

Not running, but definitely walking. Improving fitness will help with the COPD. If it's too bad for you to walk much you should be eligible for pulmonary rehab classes which include exercises.

Well, you know OP we may know something about exercise but we’re not psychic. You didn’t say anything about having a chronic illness/disability. There”s no need to be so sarky.

If you have a chronic illness such as COPD you really should consult your GP or specialist practice nurse about what you can or should do.

But simply standing on a vibrating plate really is pointless. You certainly won’t lose weight. Losing weight is about “calorie deficit “: eating less than the energy you expend.

If you want to tone up, try yoga or Pilates or body weight exercises such as squats, planks, sit ups, push ups. And so on.

And yes, walking. Walking is really what our bodies seem designed for.

Those saying they are pointless surely haven't used them! They are really really hard workouts when used properly.

georgialondon · 20/01/2020 06:43

You don't just stand on them.

Thanks all for your replies - much appreciated

My points are that to tone up and lose weight:
a) it's mostly calorie counting so you ensure calorie deficit equivalent to the rate at which you want to lose weight
b) you can't out-train a bad diet
c) "toning up" means building muscle, which burns more calories than fat
d) it's easier and cheaper to build muscle by doing simple bodyweight exercises
e) you don't need to buy an expensive bit of kit, the advantages of which are dubious
f) get expert advice from someone who knows about exercising with a chronic lung illness

If a vibrating platform were that effective, my PT would include it in my workouts. He doesn't.

Patronising much HmmHmmHmm

georgialondon · 20/01/2020 10:00

Also vibrio plate exercises ARE body weight exercises. Right I'm off to start my day.....

ScarlettBlaize · 20/01/2020 10:01

If you need to lose weight then eat less. Spending money on a vibration plate will do nothing.

I used to go on one as we had a tiny gym that did nothing but these. Went on it for 15 minutes at a time, 2 or 3 times a week. It really firmed my legs up, my balance improved and my knees felt a lot stronger. It did nothing for my weight though and as I was very overweight at the time and am an apple shape, I looked like a robin - slimmish legs but spherical top half! It did have a good effect on my legs and bum though.
