Talk to me about your swimming goggles

Good evening all,

I have an ongoing battle with swimming goggles in that I can never seem to find any that don't let in water. I think it's me not them as I have quite big cheekbones that goggles struggle to accommodate. Short of swimming in a full-on scuba mask (although frankly I'm prepared to give anything a go!), can any of you recommend your swimming goggles? At the moment I'm reduced to hoiking mine in as tight as possible and emerge looking like I've got black eyes.

Thanking you all in advance Smile

It's a nightmare, Zoggs Predator are the most reliable for me.
Feel like I've spent a fortune trying other sorts. I have a wide face, too.

Thank you - isn't it a pain? You can't check them out for suitability without buying them!

I got some in Decathlon and they had some display models available. Not quite the same as actually swimming in them, but does give some idea of how well they fit your face. And they're not expensive.

KnucklesMcGinty · 15/01/2020 13:18

I use aqua Sphere - they are mask-style, so seem to fit better. At least, they used to. They started leaking after I took them on holiday; I think sun cream ruined them.

Tinkletwat · 15/01/2020 13:19

Speedo Biofuse are my go to after trying several others, they were recommended by my local sport shop who said I could bring them back if they leaked. So far so good.

billybagpuss · 15/01/2020 13:20

I use swans they used to only be available through swimming club
But I think I got the last pair from amazon never had any trouble at all

Popsdob · 15/01/2020 21:52

I've had loads, but particularly like the zoggs predators

wasnotwasweregood · 15/01/2020 22:22

Brilliant - thank you everyone, some browsing to do!

I have tried loads and have yet to find my perfect pair! Can you try some different styles on? Best way to find a decent fit but its hard I agree.

I’m a swimmer too, another vote for bio fuse because they’re so soft to wear

See if you can go to a decathlon and try them on - they should stick to your face without the strap being around your head

Time to change them when they stop staying on by themselves

bluerad · 15/01/2020 22:55

I've tried aqua sphere and they didn't work for me. Am currently trying Toplus which were recommended on an earlier thread.

maidenover · 15/01/2020 23:00

I bought Toplus goggles (possibly on the back of a thread on here, maybe just from amazon reviews) they are great, no leaks and really comfortable. I also don’t have to have them so tight that I get big red welts round my eyes.

christmaskit · 15/01/2020 23:15

Whole family are competitive swimmers.
I second putting them on your face, pressing down slightly, they should stay on without straps.
Try Speedo or Arena. Fastskin or Speedsockets maybe. Not cheap though. Have spent loads on cheaper goggles: Zoggs, Aquasphere etc, just not worth it.
If you swim 3+ times a week they will start to leak after a few months.

christmaskit · 15/01/2020 23:17

PS Biofuse, as mentioned above, are a good, reasonably priced option.

MzHz · 16/01/2020 08:16

They often have biofuse on offer at SportPursuit

The only goggles I found that stayed on like that (Elite skin something expensive I got from Wiggle)... they brushed my eyelashes. I have short eyelashes. I did not find this tolerable while swimming. DH tried them on. His eye lashes were fine but they didn't fit over his glorious nose.

You can't really try them on before paying, anyway (or can you, where lets people do that??) Decathlon is ~2 hours drive from where I live.

Aquasphere ladies model something were very small (but they fit my 13yo DS well).

I want to put my face in a 3D scanner & get custom advice.

I borrowed some .. DHB? Wiggle brand, anyway, from friend on hol. They fit me great. Inexpensive. Bought my own 2 new pairs, so happy, and... the new ones fit terrible. Something changed about the design since friend bought. Sigh. I have fantasies about sneaking into friend's house when she's sleeping...

Parallel chat on the swimming thread.

I always buy zoggs predators

LunaFortuna · 16/01/2020 18:44

Another vote for Biofuse Flexiseal - v comfy, no marks around my eyes and no leaking. Just need to stop leaving them in the changing room!

christmaskit · 17/01/2020 09:59

Some goggles come with interchangeable nose pieces. DH has a wonderfully large nose and uses the largest nose piece. Think he has Speedsockets (will check).
Any of our local sports shops let you try. Sports Direct sometimes have good Speedo goggles and easy to try there.

CMOTDibbler · 17/01/2020 16:09

I wear Aquasphere Eagle as I need the prescription correction, but ds has had terrible trouble finding goggles that fit properly. After fifty squillion pairs, he has got on brilliantly with Aquasphere Vista which have more coverage and don't press into your eye sockets
