Has anyone tried BMF?

I fancy trying something new and thought I’d give BMF a go. Has anyone tried it? If anyone has, did you find it had a good social side? I’m fat and so going into it with a bit of trepidation, are they welcoming of all shapes and sizes? Thanks!

I have a friend at the gym who used to go. She said it was very friendly and sociable, set up for all different abilities and it really improved her fitness. She stopped going because she got fed up of getting wet cold and muddy as it's outside in all weathers.

having walked past it a number of times in the local park it looks horrendous and I've seen techniques that are so bad and no one correcting them. It really seems to be about quality rather than quantity. They work in groups according to ability but i have seen people who appear to be getting left behind a bit. I would do some stalking through the park before you decide!

Ah bit of a mixed bag then! Might give it a go as it looks like they have a beginners group. Thanks!

It looks horrible to me. Doing a press up in the mud is no better for you than doing one in a gym and looks 100 times more uncomfortable. I think people go because they think exercise should be uncomfortable and you'd only do it if someone shouts at you. It's (obviously) totally not for me at all but if people like it then good for them. I'm happier not working out in the mud!

I went for years and had to give up due to ongoing knee problems - nothing to do with BMF just something I’d been ignoring so long it reached a point where just walking hurt. I did it in torrential rain, snow, mud, boiling sunshine. Not because I thought I needed to be uncomfortable but because it can be really fun.

I loved the group aspect as I’d have never just gone to a gym alone. And the nights out were a good bonus too! I was the fittest and thinnest I’ve ever been.

They’ll always tell you to make sure you’re using correct technique for exercise rather than trying to do it as fast as possible so you do it really badly. It was fairly small when I started going when it was called British Military Fitness and now they’ve changed it so something less jingoistic!

This is making me think I should finally pick up my physio so I can go again!

@MrsJamin I hear you. I have to admit I’d really have to steel myself to go in the rain but it’s more the group aspect I’m after.

@Shantotto your post has made me want to go more! I’m sorry to hear about your knee, sounds painful. Yes, the group aspect is something I’m definitely after

If you like group stuff, crossfit is a bit similar if you have one near you.
