Nine months ago I had to give up my active job to become a carer for my son. Most days involve being around the house or short outings. I fell into a deep depression due to struggling with this change in my life and pretty much gave up on looking after myself.
For nine months I've been eating unhealthily and not making any effort to exercise. Even though it is a struggle to fit it into our daily life I definitely could have been exercising more. As a result I have gained a massive amount of weight in a short time. I'm now covered in stretch marks and have a very painful lower back which gets worse at night and stops me from sleeping.
With the New Year coming and all I've decided to make a commitment to looking after my health, to lose weight and to gain back my fitness.
So I decided to start by taking my mum's dog for a walk. It was only 3 miles on a flat surface but two days later and my muscles are still so sore in my legs that I'm struggling to move.
I'm planning on going for another walk today and just pushing though the pain as I can't see any other way of getting the muscle back in my legs if I can't do even gentle walking.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has been in this situation where they've gone from being very sedentary to more active and what their experience was. How long will I experience the muscle soreness? And also will losing weight help alleviate this back pain?
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any replies.
