Hi

I have terrible plantar fasciitis, actually slightly scared incase I rupture it.

So... Am doing all the physio stuff...but need new trainers.

Can anybody help?
I have wide feet with high arches.

I am looking at Asics Gels, one a running shoe (Lyte) which appears to be all weather and leather, the other quite a squat fat shoe, a nimbus or some other cloud name Grin.

Gonna get 2 pairs, one for every day and another for exercise (I am doing non impact exercise but might have to knock that one on the head til I improve)

Any advice would be much appreciated, I have about 150 to spend.

I’ve got Brooks GTS 18 and they’re really comfortable.

Guiltypleasures001 · 08/12/2019 12:01

Hi op

I dont know about trainers

But I went to a podiatrist or whatever the other foot specialist is called
And got some made to measure shoe inserts, they are hard shell inserts to take your weight. Made to measure to your most worn pair of shoes.

It's caused by your arches dropping, and they push them back up, weird to wear at first. I was was in agony for months and nothing including cortisone injections helped. These sorted it permanently in 3 weeks, were laser measured and I had to walk across a special mat, to track where my weight and foot pressure fell. Best £125 I ever spent

I have had plantar fascitis , I play a lot of tennis on hard surfaces, and changed from Nike to Asics Gel7, for me they have been revolutionary!

Very good arch support (I have very arched slightly wide feet). They give great support, it made such a difference.

They cost £100-120 new bit I always buy last year's model in sale for around £60/70

Not cheap, but cheaper than physio

I also have plantar fasciitis and struggle with trainers. I'm currently waiting on physio and just wear cheap insoles in my shoes.
I also play tennis and wear asics rel resolution trainers, but they're not helping. Which specific tennis shoe was it you recommended?

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 08/12/2019 12:24

The ones that are £119 REP

www.sportsshoes.com/product/asi10593/asics-gel~resolution-7-women's-tennis-shoes/?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAiA27LvBRB0EiwAPc8XWYIxTW5XL0wqoNve9BywBnHwiO7YrSqP0GqxLxJFowhEl81ZYkgslhoCBZsQAvD_BwE

I have exactly these. They also stabilise my ankles, they are quite firm, but mould to your feet. The arch support is ace for my very arched feet

Everyone has different feet though, but these work for me

Get yourself a referral for an ultrasound guided cortisol injection it's the only thing that fixed mine after years of issues. It's a bit grim getting it done but is over quickly. Physio exercises help but you need to get the inflammation down on the tendon in the first place or it will never heal.
And Brooks GTS are great - I'd reccomend getting your gait analysed at a running shop - they will be able to tell you what works best for your feet

FergusSingsTheBlues · 08/12/2019 13:11

Well I'm already having shockwave therapy but it just seems to be getting worse, so yes, I am all over the physio. And lucky to have it all on private health insurance... But never tried cortisol injection, I think I will ask for that next.

I've got brooks but the toe box is enormous it makes me feel slightly unsupported despite the fabulous arch design.

My asics made my PF worse in the long run. I have Brooks now and wouldn't look anywhere else.
But going to a proper trainer shop and getting them fitted was a game changer.

Pinkyrosie · 08/12/2019 13:49

Saucony guide trainers have been fantastic for me. Am on second pair. The only ones I can wear that help my feet. I have also had two guided injections which also really helped to stop the pain. In fact the injection was like a miracle for me.

nbee84 · 08/12/2019 14:37

Which Brooks have you got? I have some Brooks revel and the toe box is awful, I don't wear them for exercise at all now. I love my Brooks glycerin and Brooks adrenaline.

raisinseverywhere · 08/12/2019 15:11

I’ve got the brooks adrenaline and don’t have any problems with the toe box.

Melinda76 · 08/12/2019 19:57

#thehumansaredefinitelydead thanks they are the ones I wear but I don't feel they are really helping 😢

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 08/12/2019 20:25

Ah, sorry to hear that

I did rest/ice/ibuprofen for 1-2 weeks, have you had a proper break? Yoga has helped me to, gentle stretching etc.

It's the most annoying thing, and ridiculously painful Sad

Melinda76 · 08/12/2019 22:23

Yes it's been going on 8/9 months now, I've tried all the recommded remedies but I'm on my feet a lot every day running after little ones so can't really get to rest 😂
Hate having to reduce my tennis from 3 times a week to 1 lol

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 09/12/2019 06:59

Hope you get to put your feet up a bit over Christmas!

It was explained to me that the whole series of muscles down the back of your leg and foot are like one long rubber band: hamstring, calves, achilles heel and plantar fascia, and that regular stretching of these areas benefits the flexibility of this "rubber band", so you may have tight hamstrings or calves which can indirectly impact the plantar fascia. Tennis strengthens but also shortens the ham strings.... So stretching (yoga) is extra important for tennis players

I also found that taping was very helpful. I found a tutorial on youtube
