Would I stupid to run a 10k race if I can do 7k?

I am Park runner. I am slow but broke my knee years back so never going to be zipping round the track.
I can do 7k (and die in a messy heap) if pushed.

I am too scared to enter for a 10k in 3 weeks time.

My unconfident mind is screaming but you cannot run 10k.

Any handy advice??

Do it ,
If you can do 7k you can do 10k . The adrenaline and atmosphere will get you round .
I've done 10ks a few times . I'm doing one in a couple of weeks Ive hardly Done any training this time so your ahead of me . Grin

You should be fine. I had a 10k last month (I had run that distance before). I hadn't been running all year but I trained on and off. I got up to 6km in training and managed the 10k. The event will encourage you on. I wasn't racing though, I just treated it as a run so wasn't worrying about times

Basilneedswaterandsun · 21/08/2019 19:10

If you can do 7k you can do 10k with the atmosphere helping you

Sirzy · 21/08/2019 19:12

Check for cut off times first but if you can do 7 then a 10k should be doable. Especially with race crowds to cheer you on

Of course you can! Think of it this way, most marathon plans only train up to 20 miles ahead of the day. I did this and survived the london marathon this year. The adrenaline will get you through, even if you need to walk a few bits. Good luck!

Oh my bloody non existent confidence...

Booked my place. Eek.

Course you can!! Have a short walk at the water stations if you need to. It's only an extra what, 15 or 20 mins? At the most?
Good luck!

Croquembou · 27/08/2019 23:25

You can do it, you can definitely do it.

Well done for booking it - come back and let us know how you get on?

CurtainsAndCords · 27/08/2019 23:26

Can you say which one it is?

Lots of people get on well with the Windsor Women's 10k

drivingtofrance · 27/08/2019 23:27

Yes. Do it!

AuntieStella · 28/08/2019 23:13

You'll be fine. The atmosphere of the event will carry you further than you expect right now.

And of course it's utterly fine to plan walking breaks.

GroggyLegs · 28/08/2019 23:19

I'm so glad you booked!
First mile is free - you'll be getting settled in, looking round, finding your space.
Last mile is free, you'll be nearly home, crowd will be getting bigger to support, you'll be seeing finishers & checking out the medal...

Just run your 7k in the middle. Job done.

And if the absolute worst happens - you walk a bit. No sweat.

megletthesecond · 28/08/2019 23:22

You'll be fine.
I've done it. Parkrunner to 10k with no training. I just think of the first half as a very slow warm up parkrun then pick it up comfortably for the second half.

Pancakeflipper · 01/09/2019 22:15

Thank you for the advice and support. I've been away. No running but plenty of walking. Went for a run tonight and did 7k but 0.5 k was down a big hill. Did get to 5k and think how the fuck do I do this all again?
Just gotta keep going out running I guess.

I think as pp's have said yes, go for it. My DD runs to keep fit and her usual route is about 6.5 km, one day she decided to go further and did about 10.5 km. She says 6.5 is more comfortable for her, but every now and then she does 10.5.
