Indoor bike exercise stand things

Sorry I can't think what they are called! You put your outdoor bike on it and peddle on the road to nowhere. Like a treadmill for your bike Grin
I'm wondering if they are worth getting? Now my children are on holiday I'm not able to do my weekly bike ride as no child care and I go too far for the youngest to come with me.
I'm reaching maximum density and need to keep my exercise up over the summer. I'll already be down 3-4 miles on my daily walk due to lack of school run and I fear I'll look like the Michelin man by September Blush

There are rollers and turbos. I have a turbo as I'm a single parent with barely any childcare. However I'm a bit rubbish and forget it's there! But in theory yes they are good. Turbos are better if you want a proper workout with resistance.

There are different types of turbo. I did loads of research at the time and decided to go for an entry level smart turbo from
Halfords. I thought it would make the workouts more interesting if I could connect to apps that have virtual reality rides.

But you could also get a cheaper magnetic or fluid turbo and just use a youtube video. I found youtube useful for reviews and seeing the product being used before deciding.

Thanks, am going to get one next month. Are they noisy? I'm wondering if I'll be able to use it in the evening without waking the children.

I use mine in the evening when the kids are in bed, they are fairly quiet depending which one you get (make sure your chain is straight etc, no cross chaining/gear too high as this can be noisier). I have a wahoo kickr and they haven't woken up yet Smile

Happy to answer any questions

Choose a direct drive turbo trainer if you can - the wheel on ones are much noisier. Also look into Zwift. It’s super good fun and really quite addictive. I cycle while the kids are in bed 4-5 times a week doing structured workouts, races, group rides and really enjoy it.

I second Zwift! Grin
