Want to tone up but lost motivation

I'm unsure as to what to do......Getting married towards the end of the year and want to make sure i look my best. I'm a healthy weight for my height but lately just feel totally uninspired as to what to do at the gym. I think it's decision fatigue from all the wedding planning. All the classes at my gym start too early for me and I'm too tired to go to the classes after work.

I know it might sound trivial but i would appreciate any advice that has worked for someone in my shoes.

Thanks in advance.

For me the only thing that motivates is having a Personal Trainer but that isn't cheap.
Do you have a friend (bridesmaid) who might want to tone up and you share the cost
Could it come out of the wedding fund..cheeky ask

Or buy some weights and do a quick HIIT session in the morning before work ...I bought the weights but never used them..Wink

I would but they don't live anywhere close by. I'm trying to keep to a tight budget at the moment so I wouldn't be able to get a personal trainer but I do agree that that would definitely motivate me!

ha I did the same, bye bye kettle bell!

I started running - C25K. Forced myself to do three sessions a week, in the mornings at a time that worked for me. It was a chore I ticked off, but I got through it (took months to get to like it).

But once you're in the habit of taking exercise, you might find you can swop some sessions for something more general (like the Shred) or add some (weights/Pilates/resistance bands)

The trick is to keep doing it - the 9 weeks of C25K is a very useful length to get something to be a habit and show achievement

That's a great idea :)

Did you get toned from it?

Try the classes after work. I am tired after a 10.5 hour day at work but find if I go straight to the gym from work by the time I've got my kit on and am in the class doing the warm up then I get a burst of energy and really enjoy it. Plus I shower afterwards at the gym and get an extra 15mins in bed the next morning Grin

Ish!

Legs are in good nick, and tummy flatter than it has ever been before (don't quite know how that happened!)

Doesn't do much for the rest of you though - bum only if you tackle hills, and nothing upper body. Which is why you'll need to add another type of exercise at some point - the types I suggested should work whole body, and weight/resistance is very good for toning up. But other people might make different recommendations, but I think the general idea of doing both cardio and strength is uncontroversial.

I think that when starting off, getting into the habit of doing something can be the single most important aspect

heartbiscuits · 19/07/2019 16:12

Yeah, that's very true. I have been power walking so I'm at least in that habit.

I was thinking of trying body pump 1-2 times per week but....I'm scared of getting muscly. But before anyone jumps down my neck....I am the type of person to put on muscle weight exceptionally quickly. So I'm scared to try so close-ish to the wedding.

Nbee84 sorry I didn't see your message. I've tried to go after work but I just can't. I'll make it but then I eat allllll night. Kind of backfires on me.
Sorry I hate to sound like i have excuses.

I understand, we all have different likes/dislikes, ways of doing things.
I try to have a meal and snacks prepped and ready for after the gym, but I sometimes get the munchies too Blush
I'm not an early morning person and have given up trying to be. Sooo many times I've had the best intentions of getting up and hitting the gym to start my day but I never manage it. My ideal workout time is 9am. Unfortunately I have to be at work at 8 Grin

Get a decent app with resistance training exercises, a couple of dumbbells and a kettle bell along with an app and Do it every other day and you’ll notice a difference
Or try you tube for ideas

heartbiscuits · 19/07/2019 21:37

Glad I'm not the only one then!

I'm not too bad as a morning person. Just let myself down to many times saying I was going to go in the evening!

Are there any apps you'd recommend?
