Running - carrying solutions for giant phone and water?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2019 13:41

I'm a bit stuck for solutions at the moment. I've got a 6.5" phone that just about squeezes into my flip belt along with my keys. I'd really like to take some water out running with me.

Hiccups are that I hate carrying anything in my hand.
I've got quite a little frame so anything I have mustn't swamp me (I'm not sure if arm phone holders would fit?)

Any suggestions please?

Flipbelt make rectangular water bottles specifically designed for the belts.

Kyriesmum1 · 04/07/2019 18:25

Decathlon sell arm phone holders for all phones my daughter has one for her iPhone 6+ xx

Nyancat · 04/07/2019 18:29

Decathlon running leggings have a pocket on the leg that fits phone.

LazyFace · 04/07/2019 18:53

A backpack with the built in water holder? (I'd personally hate it.)

FixTheBone · 04/07/2019 19:21

Camelbak or similar, I had a small low profile one with an elasticated side pocket that would be perfect. It also had a small chest strap to stop it bouncing about.

I’m not a fan of the camelback style hydration packs personally and will deliberately run routes I know have taps or loops to avoid carrying water! Thankfully anything up to an hour and a half and I find it’s not essential. I used to have a pretty good Osprey belt that had a bottle that sat in the small of my back though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2019 22:08

Thank you for the suggestions :) I think I'd need to try a running vest thingy.

I've not seen the tights with the leg pockets. Interesting. But at the moment I definitely need shorts. It's too hot. I'll try the arm phone holders though. I did look at the flipbelt bottles. I wasn't sure if they would squish my tummy!

I'm so fussy!

I have a hydration belt like ^ and it’s perfect. I can take my iPhone XR and food in the zip pocket and drinks too. It’s seen me through a couple of marathons.

I’ve got a belt that carries 2 small water bottles and its great in hot weather even though I have a small frame, it only has a tiny h though. Its similar but not identical to this one upandrunning.co.uk/fitletic-hydra-16oz-450ml

whoami24601 · 04/07/2019 22:24

I have a kalenji backpack which holds a litre (I think!) bladder plus two 500ml bottles in front pockets. Plus there's space for my phone, a pack of tissues, some painkillers etc

whoami24601 · 04/07/2019 22:27

I really struggle with overheating but this one is not too bad. Plus you can drink on the go without using your hands.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2019 22:28

I have a small non-smart PAYG Nokia which functions as a phone and nowt else. It fits neatly in the back pocket of my running shorts/leggings.

Alternative is try and run without water. I would of one time thought that was a insane idea but I drink water before and after a run and if I go for a run longer than 6k and it's warm I take some money so I can run past a shop . I just find it easier than carrying water .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/07/2019 07:53

I think those running belts are going to be the best solution :) Sandunes and Countdown is it that specific belt you have? I was thinking about getting that but maybe putting some soft flasks in there if it fits well. What is the bounce like?

I am going to try some backpacks though.

I use my phone for music and for tracking. I did think about switching it to my ye ancient nokia, but the music is important to me.

Generally I do run without water and go up to 10k. It's too annoying to drink en route anyway, but as I'm going beyond that sometimes and have my eye on another half I'd like to be able to carry liquid. No shops on my runs, I tend to run trails.

I've got a decathlon nearby, I'll definitely head there to have a look at their backpacks.

I’ve got this one. Think mine are the 6oz bottles rather than the 8oz though. Runners need stock them I think if you want to try before you buy.

Hopefully the clicky link has worked

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2019 19:32

Thank you, it has! It looks good. I'll see if I can get to Runners Need to try my phone out in it.

Sweaty Betty power leggings have a leg pocket. I put my phone in mine and it doesn’t budge. They also do a shorts version.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 08/07/2019 10:07

I generally use a belt.
I'll sometimes use the hand held bottle for very short runs if conditions require it.
If my little belt bottles aren't going to be enough due to long distance and heat, then a vest with bladder.

Generally, I don't need to drink much when running. I'll take my belt and little bottles on a half marathon so I can sip, and I'll take little else from the water stations.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/07/2019 13:18

I wonder if I can get to see sweaty betty shorts in real life, so I can test my phone. I do need some new running shorts.

What size phone do you have?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/07/2019 16:39

6.5 inches Grin

I'm going to try www.centurionultrarunningstore.com/products/naked-running-band which was recommended on another thread, to see how comfy it is. I've ordered a soft flask to go with it cos I think it will mould around my tummy better!
