Running in the evenings

I’m not so good at getting up early and have no time in the middle of the day (work ft).

Wondering if the evenings would be better... but needs to be after the kids are in bed and after dinner. We eat all together at around 6:30-7pm and as I don’t see them all day I don’t want to bugger off for a run before dinner / when I get home.

How long is it advisable to leave it between eating and running??

I leave it at least 40 minutes, or I find food 'sits' on me and running isn't comfortable. Trial and error will help though, and it may differ by how much and what food you eat. It's quite pleasant, running in the evening!

I can't eat at all before running. How about you still sitting with children whilst they eat? That what I tend to do. Still get to see them
But then get to do your thing too

About 3 hours for me so I either go straight from work or not at all

2 hours for me unless its something very light. I prefer to run on an empty stomach.

Running after an evening no meal is likely to be very uncomfy.

Can you really not train yourself to get up half an hour earlier three times a week? And add a long run at the weekends.

Maybe could you sit with kids and have a banana or cereal bar and then go at 7 or 7.30pm? I wouldnt run after my evening meal but often hunger or greed means i dont go at all

If I need to squeeze in a training session after the baby is in bed, I can manage to run an hour to an hour and a half after eating. I prefer two to three hours though if possible. I definitely wouldn’t race an hour after eating but a training run is doable.

Just to add that I might have a slightly smaller portion if I plan to run, and then have something small (cereal bar, yoghurt fruit... another helping of dinner 😂) when I get back.
