Stomach fat

Can anyone recommend exercises for stomach fat? I go running 2-3 times a week, and since February I have cut out almost all sugar and alcohol and go to the gym twice a week.

I have lost about 10kg and I’m not technically overweight - my BMI is normal, but my waist measurement is still way above a healthy size.

I am not bothered about losing more weight but I dont seem to be shifting the fat around my stomach. Has anyone found a type exercise that really helped with stomach fat?

Spot reducing is nigh on impossible. That said there can be no harm in concentrating on core exercises - planks, bird dogs, mountain climbers, dead bugs and the like. I have also heard that high cortisol levels tend to cause fat to accumulate in the abdomen, so have a look at your stress levels and try to reduce them if necessary/possible.

Thanks ChocOrCheese I’ll look those exercises up (only one I’ve heard of is the plank). That’s interesting about cortisol as my stress levels have been sky high for 4/5 years and I got back into running partly to help me cope.

It's impossible to "spot reduce" fat, or be able to choose where you want to lose your fat from, however, following a clean diet and getting exercise, along with some other things, will help you lose fat all over your body: www.openfit.com/ask-the-expert-can-you-target-belly-fat

Without a doubt, the most important part of losing fat is your diet. You could exercise all you want, but if your diet is not good then you won't lose weight. The best diet to follow is a CICO diet, which means you eat fewer calories than you burn in a single day. You can use a TDEE calculator to calculate how many calories you burn in one day, then eat 70-80% of that number.
