120 squats a day

This is a really weird question, so apologies in advance. I work from home in amongst looking after my small children.

I find it very hard to fit in any meaningful exercise, but I'm feeling so untoned. I've started doing squats whilst I wait for the kettle to boil.

Is it ridiculous to hope that this might help turn my sack of potatoes behind into something a little less vegetable-y?

I think anything is a good start if your baseline is nothing!

It might be worth watching a few you tube vids on form, just to make sure you make the most of them - I didn't realise that I'd been doing them wrong until someone showed me the right way!

I did have a quick look on YouTube - weight on the heels right?

What quick things can I do to really tone legs and thighs? I also try and fit in a shred when I can

That's right. Things like barre exercises are good for legs (and usually core). I like to do plies and push ups off the kitchen side whilst I'm waiting for the kettle to boil!

Ah ok great will YouTube some of those two. Might need to start drinking more cups of tea.

I'd definitely chuck some lunges and bridges in there too if you are looking to tone up. Adding weight helps too. If your children are young enough, I used to hold DD when she was about 2 whilst doing squats to make it extra hard and she thought it was hilarious

You must get your form right, once you've mastered that you won't be doing 120 a day Grin

Keep your back upright, leaning forward will make you think you are getting deep into the squat but it's not proper form.

An upright back will also show just how tight your hips are.

Properly formed squats are a killer, even if your just using body weight. Start with 3 sets of 10-12 per day.

Also sumo squats (much wider stance with feet turned out) will work your inner thighs.

Also sit against the wall (as if there was a chair there) while you're waiting for the Kettle to boil. It absolutely kills but is brilliant for toning your quads

Oh good idea op, I've never thought of doing that, and the push ups from the kitchen work tops are a good idea, I can't do them off the floor but I could do that. Anyone have good exercise for love handles while the kettle boils Grin

oreosoreosoreos · 12/06/2019 14:17

Drogonsnextwife I've been doing them that way for a while and gradually going down to lower surfaces (tv unit/coffee table). Thought I'd give a proper floor one a go at the weekend (which I couldn't do at all before) and actually managed one pretty decent one!

Maybe standing up weighted arm exercises? Again, form is key, but you can get a good ab workout in from a standing position- much better than crunches etc for a lot of women too as they can worsen any diastasis you may have after pregnancy.
