Pins and needles at the gym

Back at the gym after. 2 year absence 😨
Been going every day for over a week
Last 2 days I’ve been getting bad pins and needles down one leg.it goes away when I get of the rowing machine.
I do 30 mins rowing.but at least half them with the pins and needles
When I go to stand up it feels like my leg will give way
Why is this happening

Trapped nerve? Any pain in your back? You probably need to see your GP.

Feelingwalkedover · 10/06/2019 22:07

No ,no other issues ,and fine when I get of and go on the bike

Shoes or foot strap too tight? Foot rest too low?
Change machine?

Feelingwalkedover · 10/06/2019 22:22

Perhaps I’m staying on the machine to long ,I’m fine for about 20 mins then it starts up

Are you a rower ? Why the rowing machine for so long?

NC4Now · 11/06/2019 08:25

30 mins on the rowing machine does sound a bit excessive. Don’t you get bored? You’d be better doing intervals for a shorter time.

Feelingwalkedover · 11/06/2019 18:38

I’m fat
So I can only manage to row and the bike 🥴
I went today and I managed 30 mins rowing with no pins and needles.
So that was good

Well done for doing the switch from fridge to the gym! and the secret of the gym working for you is that you enjoy it. You do and this is great!
As a PP said, week by week, add something new, could be grabbing a 3kg dumbbell in each hand, standing behind a bench and slowly going down until your bum touches the bench.

To get the max out of the bike, try to alternate 3 min at normal pace with 30 seconds of "I am going to die" pace. The bike is great to experiment with High Intensity Interval training.

But in the end, do whatever works for you and you enjoy!
warning, the gym can be addictive!! Welcome to the club!

I’ve not really done anything other than try to increase the calories I burn at each session..I’ve not confidence yet to try anything else.
to get to the rowing machines I have to walk through a room of men on the weights .its quite intimidating and well that’s the hardest part of going.

So I don’t like to draw attention to myself by moving from one machine to another ..so I guess actually that must be why I’m getting pins and needles,I’m staying on things to long so I don’t have to move 😢

Nobody pays attention to anybody at the gym. We go there to focus on our workout. I don't judge, or rather I only judge those who put stuff on a bench and then don't use it because they are standing next to it with the nose in their phone for 15 minutes.

You have every right to be there and use anything you like. Don't feel intimidated. We were all beginners at some points.

Hyperventilating - try to control your breathing

NC4Now · 13/06/2019 21:38

No-one judges - and no matter how slow you go, you’re always lapping the girl on the sofa.
People who are into fitness love to see someone starting out on their fitness journey, because it reaffirms their own lifestyle as one to aspire to. I’m no gym bunny, but I’ve found the people at my gym really encouraging.
Have you had an induction? At ours you can book a one off session with a PT for free to show you all the equipment and help you come up with a few new things to try.
Well done on your new regime - I hope you start to feel more confident soon.
