Starting C25K

Hello, I’m really just looking for some tips as I’m going to start C25K.

I’m currently quite overweight and I’m at risk of developing obesity related health issues (I’m about 15stone at 5ft 8 but main issue is having close blood relatives with obesity related issues).

I don’t know if I’m posting in the right area as my main problem is I need a pair of supportive trainers for running in, especially as I have nerve damage in my right knee due to a childhood accident. I also don’t want to spend too much money as C25K might be to hard on my knee and I might have to stop.

This is a bit long but any tips would be great thanks, any tips, not just tips on appropriate trainers Smile

You can use good trainers for walking day to day so they would not be wasted.
I have dodgy knees but done c25k slowly and repeating week s and it s been fine.
Go for it
Don't rush
Get good trainers
Repeat weeks as needed

Go to a proper running shop for trainers and discuss budget, but as said, you can use them for walking too, so not wasted.

Trust the programme, but feel free to repeat a run/ week if you feel it would be beneficial.

Diarise your runs so it becomes a habit.

Consider other supportive exercise for non-run days, weights, yoga, whatever.

Don't eat your calories back - you expend surprisingly few calories in half an hour's exercise!

Look to see if there are any C25k starter groups near you, group exercise is definitely more motivating, or buddy up with someone - you're much more likely to do it then.

Echo the trainers advice, you could always find out which ones suit best and then see if you can get them cheaper online. Take it slowly when you start and don’t get discouraged if you find the first few runs hard.
