Can anyone help? I've been using a Fitbit Charge 2 for a while. It does ok in recording steps/distance on fairly flat, easy ground, but is less accurate on what are my now regular countryside walks.

Does anyone know how to get a more reliably accurate measure of your walk/hike/run? I may need a better device, but do I need a GPS or Smartwatch? If so, what is best?

I have a low-sped Garmin (the 35, though I think the 25 is still available).

It's pretty reliable even in more remote areas, will show your elevation as well as your route, and count your steps for you,

If you have friends whi run, ask around to see if anyone has upgraded recently. Ther eisn't much you can do with an old Garmin, other than pass it on (dirt cheap or free) to someone who'll use it.

OTOH, if you have plenty to spend, go for a top-of-the-range Garmin or a Suunto, which will more-or-less do the walk for you.

I have a Garmin vivoactive 3, as I do quite a few sports and it records them all.

Regarding steps, it seems about accurate. The thing I like about it is that you don't have to swing your arm for it to count steps, like I had to on my old Garmin 235. It must be sensitive enough to measure the slight jerk of your feet. However, this has it's downsides, in that it counts me changing gears etc as steps, but nothing is perfect and it seems to be broadly accurate.
