Help with toning up after weight loss

Tacobella · 14/05/2019 20:02

I have lost 2.5 stone (at a sensible pace) with another 1.5/2 stone to lose but I am starting to get saggy skin Sad on inner thighs, arms and stomach.

I know that there is no getting away from this BUT can anyone help me with the best way of toning up and creating as much shape as possible?
I have been trying to do some DVD’s/fitness blender at home but I’m thinking that maybe it’s not enough.
Can anyone help with what I should be doing and how much?
Is this even possible to do at home or am I going to need to go to the gym?

Hiya
I think lifting weights whilst eating low carb diet is good for toning. Good luck

You don't have to go to the gym. What about free exercise like running or bike rides?

WindsweptEgret · 18/05/2019 18:53

If it's just skin, as in wrinkled, I don't think you can do anything about it. If it's loose fat covered with skin, then low carb and exercise should help to lose it. Brisk hill walking is good for fat loss and toning your legs.

Hello! Well done on losing all the weight. That’s so good! To tone up, you ideally need to start using some light weights. This can be done at home but you’d probably need to ask someone for some advice first. But I have no experience with the loose skin, maybe ask a fitness instructor or gp about the best way to go about it? Good luck.

Thank you for the replies.

The thing is I am not sure if it is loose skin or just flabby areas! It is definitely quite wobbly!! Maybe it’s both? How can I tell?
I need to keep going anyway as I need to lose the weight for health.

I currently walk the dog between 45mins and an hour a day and just started doing 2 x Kettlebell workout DVD a week. Maybe I should do some additional arm exercises using weights and another type of toning workout.

I was thinking about the gym as would then have access to all the weight machines and the instructors but have to admit that the thought of going makes me feel a bit anxious.

I think if you pinch it and it is like the back of your hand then it's just loose skin.

If you can afford it get a rowing machine or use one at the gym. I literally had an apron of skin hanging down and my thighs looked terrible. I used a rowing machine and massaged/used exfoliating gloves and the skin did shrink back over time and it did wonders for my thighs and arms.
I’d suggest using weights for your arms too if you want to see better results.

i've been doing Jillian Michaels DVDs like the Shred and they have definitely helped change my shape. am doing 6 week 6 pack at the moment and find myself staring at my stomach in the mirror in the mornings... when i did Ripped in 30 it was my upper arms that i was impressed by!

have also been doing bio oil on my stomach and upper arms where i have stretchmarks but seems to help with overall condition, and i have also done body brushing which along with moisturising helps make skin softer.

i think the key thing is to try and exercise enough so that it's helping to drive your weightloss, if that makes sense.

Hi, fab weight loss - I'm sure you'll keep going and get to your target if you've got this far!

I lost nearly 6 stone last year and have been fighting the same problems. Loose skin goes back gradually - most rapidly over the first six months but keeps on going up to two years after you start shrinking, so the first thing is don't panic. I am definitely less wrinkly than I was 6 months ago though some areas (underarms especially) I don't think will ever go.

Second is to fill out some of it with exercise. I now go to core and spin classes and run regularly which was a huge surprise at my age. Yes, rowing machines are good but they also depend on a certain amount of fitness especially if you're not used to it. Stick with low impact at least to begin with. Ellipticals (cross trainers) are good for this. Weight-bearing but also work arms and have resistance, but don't put too much pressure on knees and hips.

Don't feel anxious about gyms. Seriously. I was 15st+ when I first joined and it was a good 7 months before I even started dieting - spent that time walking and starting basic core as I was pretty much a jellyfish. Folk at my local have been lovely and they know full well that everyone starts somewhere.

Good luck!

Thank you again for the replies!
It’s good to know that there may be some hope yet!

I think I am going to majorly up the exercise by buying a piece of equipment and also start with the body brushing and massage to improve the texture and tone - my skin needs this anyway as the cellulite looks quite bad, possibly worse than to begin with Shock
