Experiences with Apple watches/fitness

Hi,

I have an 8 week old baby and I'm keen to try to a bit more exercise. Baby is not good on a bottle (mainly just refuses) and so I'm coming to the conclusion that I need to exercise with the baby somehow. I'm thinking walking is the way forward - when I suggested getting a fitbit to my husband he said he would get an Apple Watch as they are better, with more features and 'three circles' which show you progress on your daily goals. I haven't had a watch in ten years as I have a tiny wrist so this may kill two birds with one stone if the straps fit!

But my question is - has an Apple Watch helped you achieve a healthier lifestyle and get in shape? Hmm

I have one. I would say "no" but only because I already have a Myzone heart rate tracker which already did the job. The Apple Watch is very diligent about prodding you to move, though, and is useful from that point of view. It has a step counter if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Thanks for your insight. It's a lot of money so I'd like to fee sure. Of course the only strap I like is the Hermes one... 🙄

I just had a fitbit. They're just step counters really but I like the app and seeing and analysing the stats. It definitely encouraged me to move more. You can set up challenges with 'friends' on your list (a lot of my 'friends' I've added from threads on here.) They bring out the competitive side to me and I like to be at or near the top of the leader board Grin

I have both an Apple Watch and a Fitbit and I much prefer my Fitbit.

I had a Fitbit first, but now have an Apple Watch. The Fitbit was good for steps (although the magic 10000 steps is a completely arbitrary number), and I enjoyed the interaction with friends.

I then got an Apple Watch through my health insurance and love it. It has greater functionality than my Fitbit did, and the targets feel (slightly) more scientific. The Watch has definitely impacted on my activity levels, but it's a lot of money to pay out.

I'd probably start with a Fitbit and see how you get on before spending so much on an Apple Watch.

I’ve had a Fitbit and then wanted to get something waterproof to swim in and I got an Apple Watch.. I much preferred my Fitbit and infact sometimes swap back so I can have a walk off against my colleagues.. look at the Fitbit Versa it’s probably got the functions that you need and is a bit smarter (tech wise not how it looks) than the other fit bits.

Also the circles - I really don’t know the point of them - think the targets on the Fitbit are much more sensible!

I've had a apple watch and didn't really think anything of it so I sold it and bought a Fitbit. I love the Fitbit!

Only thing is if you plan on walking with your pram then because your wrist stays static it can fail to pick up the steps, I have a fitbit blaze and the tracker pops out the watch and I put it in my bra for walking with the pram
