Hi
I've just signed up for my first 10k. I am successfully doing ParkRun each week but I need some advice about nutrition.

Has anyone got any ideas or recommendations re this?

TIA
Sarah

Do you mean advice about healthy eating in general or sports nutrition for use when running? For 10k you shouldn't need anything extra.

Yes - I really could do with some healthy eating guidelines, book recommendations etc.
Feel I want to get healthier in general with my food intake. I do do 5:2.
Many thanks

The eat well pages on the NHS website is your best place to find non-biased researched based advice on healthy eating.

You don't need any kind of special diet or additional nutrition to enable you to run 10km, just a healthy diet.

Good luck! I found moving from 5km to 10km fairly easy, I hope you do too!

I worked with a Precision Nutrition coach a few years ago and found it really helpful.

  1. Plan all of your meals for the week (and 2 snacks a day).
  2. At the end of the week consider how it went.
  3. Don't think about stopping things (eg don't say 'I won't drink coke') think about adding a healthy habit (eg 'I will drink 6-8 glasses of water a day).
  4. Only try to add one healthy habit a week.

It will take 12+ weeks, but is more likely to lead to long-term changes. (For me, I had to work on having protein during every meal). Good luck!
