Les Mills app Vs YouTube workouts

I'm interested in the les Mills app. The £9.99 one.
I was wondering if the workouts are superior to what is available on YouTube.
If you have it. What do you love about it?

On you tube I follow pop sugar and super hero fitness and for all I enjoy the daily exercise I need something new and perhaps more challenging.

I use the Les Mills app regularly, I was going to Les Mills classes at the local gym so I like the format. My membership ran out before Christmas for the gym and I’ve not bothered renewing just use the app.

I was going to Bodybalance and Bodycombat and enjoy the classes, and they’re as good online, I like the online instructors. I did 10 minutes of Bodypump Sunday and could barely move for 2 days! I’ll be working my way up on that one.

I’ve not tried the YouTube ones you mentioned so can’t really compare. I’m pretty sure I tried Les Mills for free for a month so wouldn’t definitely recommend it to try out.

Thank you!
Pop sugar tends to have guest instructors from various programs. I really liked the les Mills body combat with an instructor called Anna.
You're right if I try it for a month I've got nothing to lose. Is it easy to cancel?
What do you watch it on?

I haven’t tried cancelling but I think it should be relatively straightforward after the trial month if you didn’t get on with it.

I have an app on my tablet and also on the streaming stick for my telly.

evilharpy · 25/01/2019 07:13

I wax lyrical about Les Mills far too often, they should be paying me commission. It's honestly brilliant and a bargain for the quality and variety of classes you get. Far better than anything I've found on youtube.

No idea about cancelling as I've never had the need to find out!

Fitnessblender is a free online site with great workouts and lots of variety. Personally I prefer a real class as I work harder with others, but I’d use them when I couldn’t get out.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 25/01/2019 07:33

I love the les mills app because nothing is as good for me a body pump and nothing else on the internet comes close to body pump.

BUT i also love fitness blender and do think its better for building fitness whereas the les mills stuff is better when you have a reasonable level of fitness already. Also its free and i love their low impact stuff (it still make you sweat) esp when recovering from injury

But when i fitness blender i miss the les mills instructors (i find they make me laugh while exercising, i love the endless enthusiasm) and music.
Ultimately ive found myself back at the gym as i can swim there. But if it was home fitnessing id be using a combo of les mills and fitness blender

evilharpy · 25/01/2019 09:27

I love the instructors too. I have a spin bike at home and do rpm, sprint and the trip and Glen is my favourite.

Also do pump, combat, step (the athletic releases) and the odd grit and attack.

gaggiagirl · 25/01/2019 13:10

Thanks everyone!
I'm on day one of the free trial. I've done core combat this morning. I really enjoyed it. I found it quite motivational and I loved the music. I can't get out to classes really, well I could but it's just fitting it into life. That's why I wanted something as good as a gym class, but at home.
Ill have a look at fitness blender too thank you.

What's everyone's favorite videos on LMOD?

scaredofthecity · 25/01/2019 17:26

I've been eying this up for a while, do you need the kit? I'm guessing at least a barbell?

gaggiagirl · 25/01/2019 17:56

@scaredofthecity there are hundreds of workouts that require no equipment. Some require
Resistance band
Weight.. Plate??? Or something
Static bike
Step
Hand weights
Bar bell

I've got hand weights and a resistance band and I've got a toddler toilet step that might work 😂 I have a kettle bell too. I'll just avoid the videos that require equipment I don't have.

Barbell with a 1.25kg, 2.5kg and 5kg weight. Having first bought a rubbish cheap set i think its worth spending a bit in these. I have these

I use a step for pump and step. You can do pump without but it good for form. Make sure whatever one you buy is long enoughto accomodate your body. The reebok step is really good

I also have a cheepy 2kg dumbell and 3kg which are really handy. You can manage with the barbell weights but i prefer them.

Attack, balance and shabam (les mills alternative to zumba) doesnt need any equipment. I dont know about the rest

Sammysquiz · 25/01/2019 20:10

I love the Les Mills app. I’m a big BodyPump fan so bought a barbell. You can manage without a bench & just skip the chest track, but it’s good to get one as then you can use it for the step classes too.

I only ever do BodyPump though - I need to diversify and try the others!

scaredofthecity · 26/01/2019 08:24

Cool thanks for that, I'm gonna give a go! It's impossible for me to get to the gym atm and dvd workouts soon become boring, this looks ideal Smile

gaggiagirl · 26/01/2019 20:49

There are loads of dance workouts and Barre classes I love a bit of Barre.
There's really something for everyone. So much variety. I'm loving it so far.

MoonriseKingdom · 26/01/2019 21:44

Nice to find some more fans! Combat is the one I do the most although I really like Barre as well. I love step but unfortunately my knee doesn’t agree at the moment. It would be really difficult for me to get to gym classes at the moment and I find the 30 minute options really convenient to fit in. I think the presenters are really good and the huge variety of things available make it good value. I just wish we had some room for a bike to do the spin options.

gaggiagirl · 28/01/2019 07:28

I have never lost so many calories!!!! I'm so pleased I took the plunge.
I tried cxworx and found it too slow paced but I'm sure I would like it on days when I can't do combat or attack session.

I love bodyrock tv. There are lots of free workouts on you tube or you can subscribe (which I don't)

LoubyLou1234 · 02/02/2019 11:22

I love my les Mills app I used to do their classes but moved and no gym nearby. I have a spin bike so do RPM, the trip and Sprint. I also do Body Balance and Body Combat. I have done sh'bam too. I plan to mix it up with some others at some point too.

It's all horses for courses tho everyone will have their own preferences but I like the instructors and how it's taught in Les Mills. I like how you can choose longer or shorter classes too.
