Tips for starting 30 day shred??

I'm unfit, although do play tennis twice a week. About 2 st above ideal weight and don't do any other exercise - apart from walking to the pub! Have a big event at the start of December and would ideally like to shift 3/4 stone before then, so am doing a diet overhaul starting Monday - 5:2, hardly any alcohol, carbs etc

30 Day shred appeals as the timescales obviously fit with December, and it sounds like it's only 20 mins a day, so I could do it as soon as the kids leave for school and then be up and out for 9.

I've read a few things about people not being able to walk/hurting loads etc so just thought I'd ask for any tips on how to make it easier on my body, do I push through the pain etc. Should I try a longer warm up/warm down to begin with? Should I opt for the easier ones at the beginning or just jump straight in?

I'm just on the right side of 50. Any tips/advice on the first 30 days gratefully accepted! Thanks in advance....

If you're very unfit and carrying a lot of weight, I wouldn't go for the thirty day shed type things. They're generally based on high intensity interval training and can be very rough on the joints, lots of jumping etc. Personally, I'd join slimming world and find some moderate intensity exercise that's easier on the joints to start with. You won't lose the weight you want to before December but it'll be far more sustainable.

To clarify - my BMI is 26.6 - I am 10lb over the upper ideal weight for my height but 2 stone over the weight I feel at my absolute best at which is a size 10/12. Still in a size 14 bottom and 16 upper body (boobs!!) so I'm not carrying masses of weight, just more than I would like. I think people would call me curvy rather than fat (although I could be wrong!).

I would also not describe myself as 'very unfit' - I play tennis twice a week for 3 hours total and do sometimes walk further than the pub - I may have done myself a disservice here! Sorry if I have!

Well, I have done this type of workout and found it very effective in the short term, just find the kit you need and put it all together beforehand. I found really upbeat music I enjoyed was essential and stick a ticking clock right in front of you - you'd be amazed how long 40 seconds can seem!

Thanks v much - the music and especially the clock sound like a great idea

Start each level following the beginner and using light weights. Then over the 10 days work out for each exercise whether you can do the advanced version or use heavier weights. If you push yourself too hard at the beginning you will hurt.
And btw the workouts are closer to 30 minutes including the warm up and cool down.
