Anyone up? Race day, tipping down, do I make kit changes?

I'm running on eof the many half marathons going on today. And after spending yesterday looking nervously at the forecast, I've woken to steady moderate rain and a 90% chance it'll continue like this into the afternoon.

Obviously, I don't want to get uncomfortable! Do I just l myself get wet? Do I add a rain jacket? Do I need a visor, or will headband be OK?

What do other people do? I'm after pros and cons of the above, and any further event tips. I have to be off at 7ish

Good luck!

It isn't cold so I'd just go with what you normally wear but it is down to personal preference. Soggy stuff if horrible though!

You are going to get wet, very wet. I'd probably aim for clothes that won't get heavy or rub when saturated to be honest.
I get very hot when running so I wouldn't be able to keep a rain jacket on, but plenty will!

Two things I would do - running hat with visor to stop rain getting on my eyes, a spare pair of socks or two to prevent blisters,

Good luck !

Take a towel and dry clothes for afterwards. My husband wore an old baseball cap in similar circumstances and it was helpful (glasses).

Definitely not a jacket, agree with pp. A baseball cap style hat or visor to keep water off your face helps. Good luck!

If it's not cold I would wear shorts rather than leggings. Leggings get very clingy and uncomfortable when wet.

Thanks - I think fetching bin bag, perhaps accessorised with carrier bag hat for the waiting round at the start (I don't have any water resistant old clothes, so it'll have to be plastic). Because the main clothes are going to be a combo I run in regularly. After the hanging round for the start, I think I'll be plenty warm enough once moving.

Have decided to stick with the preferred socks (stance) rather than change to twinskins (hilly). I doubt I'd change during the event, so will deal with state of feet at the end.

Visor is the trickier decision. I don't usually run in one, and am nervous of new kit on race day. But I do have a (cheap, Decathlon own brand) baseball cap, so I might take that with me.

Oh crap - time to be off. Thanks everyone!!

I’d second the spare socks and if someone can be at the end with dry footwear as it’s usually a fair walk back to the car at these things.
I’m lucky my event today is in an outdoor swimming pool so I was always going to be wet Smile

Thanks again for the help!

I wore the cap on the journey to the event, by which time it was making me itch, so I abandoned it, and wore a buff as a headband (just to stop drips into the eyes). It tipped it down whilst I was in the (humungous) pre-start loo queue and again after I'd finished, but wasn't that wet during. Glad I didn't run in a rain jacket (though lots of people did). Dry clothes for after were very good for morale!

Now back, snuggled on sofa and not planning to do anything more energetic than ring for a pizza later on.
