There's a few of us that got in through ballot or a charity place. Shall we keep each other company in the next few months?

I'm gonna kick off my training with a week off due to sore ankle 😂 Well, I'll still do a parkrun this week, but THEN I'm taking a week off!

The furthest I've ran so far is 10k, so I'm quite excited for the challenge, I also have a 15 mile trail race in January, which I'm hoping will be a good prep for the big event.

What's everyone else doing? What's your training strategy? Is this your first marathon? I want to know it all!

Training plan on official website has me Training up to 20 miles. Will that be enough to then last the full 26 on the day?

I'm at 14 miles so far and running out of Sunday long run options as I need a "3 week taper" apparently 🙈

madeindevon2 · 19/03/2019 11:20

hows everyone doing with their training? less than 6 weeks to go now!!

RufflingFeathers · 20/03/2019 06:45

Plodded round 20miles yesterday! felt good to finish but didn't feel great doing it - i basically ran the same 3.5mile road 6 times !! a bit mind numbing, but meant I could stash water/gels.

I've still got a 20 and a 22 to go- will be relieved when they're done!!

LionelMessy · 30/03/2019 12:54

Great effort Feathers.
I'm Upto 18m and what I did was split it in 3. So I ran 3miles out and back for a quick drink and gel, then ran in opposite direction for 3 and back. Repeat in a 3rd direction.
Psychologically this helped as different scenery and safe in knowledge never more than 3 miles from home.
I used plotaroute.com to map out easy 3 mile blocks if anyone else what's try this.

Hi everyone and well done on your long runs!

I am quite behind with my training because of my Achilles’ tendon problems, I am fine now but all time ambitions have gone out of the window. I’ll just be happy to get to the finish line in one piece Grin

Anyway did 25k today and didn’t suffer too much, so I feel relatively confident Smile. Fingers crossed no more hiccups!

I have a question, do you already have your bib number and start zone? Or are we all getting them in April?

LionelMessy · 10/04/2019 06:45

Are we all tapering now!?

madeindevon2 · 12/04/2019 13:34

according to my program Ive got 13 miles this weekend and 8 the next.....
after last weekends 22 miles alone I am quite glad!

Hows everyone feeling? this is my first so i am quite excited!
I was thinking now running easing off to get back more in the gym but been told NO wait until after marathon. tapering meant to be a rest not just replace the running with loads more exercise...

madeindevon2 · 23/04/2019 14:07

Good luck and fair running to you all!

I hope it goes well (and I hope you let us know how you get on)

CalmConfident · 28/04/2019 14:15

Hope you all had great runs - inspiring coverage on the TV :)

FATEdestiny · 29/04/2019 17:16

I have serious marathon envy after watching yesterday's marathon. I applied for a ballot place. I realise chances are low, but you never know.

How did you all go?

CalmConfident · 29/04/2019 23:00

I applied to the ballot too fate

Imnotreadyforthis · 30/04/2019 00:03

Hi everyone!
It was absolutely amazing, an incredible experience and no words can do it justice! Loved every second of it, even the last two kms when I started getting pains.
The people and the support are absolutely fantastic and so are the volounteers.
I already want to do it again Grin. Best of luck with the ballot!

sheepysheep · 30/04/2019 14:15

It was amazing and the cheering was phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I’m still a bit sore and getting up and down stairs is still a little undignified ;-)

I have a place in Ride London so I’m hoping the soreness soon wears off so I can get on with my bike training!

Get thee to the marathon site and enter the ballot!

LionelMessy · 10/05/2019 23:44

The crowd support make this event. Not sure how it comes across on tv, but no way I could have kept going for 26 miles without strangers shouting my name.

Last 2 weeks all I've done is eat mind you.

Not sure when I'll have urge to run again and no plans to run a marathon ever again!

SquirmOfEels · 11/05/2019 00:06

sheepy and Swim Serpentine for the full London Challenge??

SquirmOfEels · 11/05/2019 00:08

Sorry - I meant London Classics (I knew in the back of my mind that I'd got the wrong word, but of course the right one only popped up,just after I'd hit 'post'

sheepysheep · 11/05/2019 10:20

squirm yes, I’m booked in for swim Serpentine too. Swimming is my real weak point so I need to get going with the training for that. The swim part will definitely be very much an aim to complete not to compete!!! I will just keep thinking about the lovely medal to spur me on...
