Hi All
I hope this is in the right place.
I have a 20 month old toddler. Pre being pregnant I used to enjoy running - no great distances just c25k. I would really like to get into running again, would love to try parkrun. However my dh works everyweekend & i have no childcare. Is it worth investing in a running buggy? Or shpuld i just wait until hes old enough to run with me? I think parkrun say 4.

Thanks in advance

Well if you wait until he's 4 he's not exactly going to be running at speed!

What buggy do you have? I could run with my Bugaboo Donkey and my BJCM was ok as long as the ground was tarmac too.

Thats true! I have a graco light one, i dont think it would be sturdy enough to run with.

Yup! You should. I got a 3rd or 4th hand (by the looks of it) Out n About from a local Facebook selling page for about £60, so not really an investment at all. Don’t wait to see one listed, ask if anyone wants to get rid of there’s - I had about 4 people offer theirs. Had it a while now and it’s such a smooth ride for the child, very easy to steer one-handed if necessary, great up and down curbs, great suspension, great off-road. Loads of pockets and a good basket so no need to carry anything. We keep that as our day to day walking buggy and also for runs, then keep our tiny hand luggage buggy in the car to save on boot space. 360 does fold up nicely though anyway.

(Sorry, the ‘360’ i refer to being the Out n About Nipper 360)

Beware because in my experience running with a buggy affects your posture and can lead to musculoskeletal problems.

Pootlebug · 08/10/2018 18:15

Was also going to suggest the Out n About as a cheap running buggy easily picked up second hand

I’m a big parkrun fan but in my experience you’re probably not going to get an enjoyable 5k run in with your child until they are 6-7+, it’s a really long way for little 4 year old legs to run the whole thing. So a running buggy sounds like a great idea! Is your local parkrun quite flat and on smooth paths? I find it really hard pushing on grass or up hill!

GailLondon · 08/10/2018 18:21

Oh I meant to say, there’s a guy at my parkrun who runs round at 23 minutes with a double buggy and two kids in, all on a grassy hilly field! I’m not quite at that level!

Thanks for all the replies, im definitely sold on the idea!! GailLondon that guy sounds amazing!!!

I used to run with my usual buggy, think it was a maclaren.

DS started doing park run last year when he was 5. Usually takes him around 45 minutes (with me and DD jogging along next to him).

I bought an out & about nipper sport from gumtree. Fantastic buggy. I will probably sell it for the same i bought it for as they hold their value. Great to run with and still comfy for my 3 year old. Lots of them at parkrun!

I bought a BabyTrend expedition on eBay. 3 wheeler, had big wheels and a bit of suspension. Really light and turned on a sixpence. It made running really enjoyable with a pram. 3 wheeler, lock the front wheel in place and you are good to go.

I used it to train for a 10k and regularly did 5ks with it. I had an elastic wrist band th9ng that attached round the handle and went round my wrist. It meant I could push one handed (only a few fingers pushing it was that light) and it didn't affect my posture too much.

Definitely go for it.

Do it. I've done park run with out n about double with dd4 and ds2 in there. Hard but good, and sounds like you're a stronger runner. They love it, shouting "Yah!" At me to go faster/ do wheelies

Stuckforthefourthtime · 21/10/2018 09:14

If you're a good runner it's worth it and you can often find them second hand. Don't run with a regular one, they're not stable enough at speed and it will massively increase wear and tear.

Hi
Just wanted to update i brought a second possibly third hand out n about nipper - absolutely love it! Just done my first park run with it Smile thank you for all the recomendations
