Squat-proof black leggings

I'm looking for recommendations for full length black leggings to wear for the school run the heading straight to strength training at the gym. I'd like them to be very opaque and to not fall down. I'm a 16 so at the top size for many exercise clothing brands. I'm happy to pay a bit more for really soft good quality leggings but also more than happy for cheaper recommendations. Have toyed with Sweaty Betty, Lululemon and My Protein but all get mixed reviews. Anyone got any great suggestions?

Not helpful but it really hacks me off that the assumption is that size 18+ people don't want exercise clothes. Sorry I can't help.

Onynx · 29/08/2018 08:58

M&S ones are super. High waisted with a draw string. I've only tried the Capri ones but will be buying the longer length for winter.

Bluefargo · 29/08/2018 09:00

I find the gapfit ones good - XL or XXL for size 18 depending on how you are shaped.

Bluefargo · 29/08/2018 09:01

Sorry see you are a 16 - XL should be fine

Victoria Secret, seriously the best workout trousers I’ve ever had. No drawstring but don’t roll down when I bend down, thick material that you can’t see through and they do full length ones. I got mine in the sale as I needed some high waisted ones but they’ve exceed my expectations and I’d pay full price for some more. I’m also a size 16.

The Ivy Park ones from Topshop are by far the best pair I've ever come across, I'm a dance teacher so have tried many. They're thick and have an extra layer inside, like a pair of cycling shorts but thin and you can't even see the line on the outside. They're comfy and fully opaque, I've had mine for about 3 years and they're still perfect and have since bought a cropped pair in the same style.

Hopefully this is the same pair, mine don't have the logo on the back of the leg but they may have added that since I bought mine-

Lululemon’s “All the Right Places” leggings are amazing. Really flattering as they’re high rise and supportive. The fabric is nice and thick so as well as holding everything in, they also hide my cellulite. They’re not cheap but they’re the best leggings I’ve ever had and I’ve now got two pairs.

Decathlon do running tights, in various colours/lengths depending on season and the full length ones should be in stock by now. I've had black ones from there, I'd say they met all your requirements.

TKMaxx also has very good workout stuff - I had some Norwegian (?) brand from there (black with small neon detail) which were excellent.

pomlife · 29/08/2018 09:17

2xu compression or Lorna Jane
(Also lulu lemon)
Keep your standards high and your squats low a lol

carrie74 · 29/08/2018 10:36

I'm a convert to Sweaty Betty (although don't have any black leggings - you'll still need to try them and do downward dog/squat in the mirror to check). But I also rate GapFit.

But I've never found one brand to be consistently opaque.

PhillyJoe · 29/08/2018 20:37

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm going to try the M&S ones and investigate some of the others.

All of my plain black nike ones are squat proof, patterned not so much.

JustGettingStarted · 31/08/2018 07:58

I'm a big fan of decathlon leggings. I have some with a straight leg that are amazing. Very squat proof.

CassieStuart · 31/08/2018 08:18

Sweaty Betty - zero gravity leggings in black are opaque. Expensive, but they do wash well and last. I've had mine for about three years now and still as good as new

Bubba1234 · 31/08/2018 08:20

I love Nike they last years and work

IceBearRocks · 31/08/2018 09:01

Always go for Nike !!!

Almondio · 31/08/2018 09:06

I have two pairs from M&S, one is a full length compression pair which are totally opaque, and one is a cropped pair which I tend to use for non-squat activities as they're not as thick, but both are great quality.

Karrimor full length running tights are brilliant, really comfortable and long enough for taller people (5ft11 and I want full length to be just that!)

justaweeone · 31/08/2018 09:14

Nike for me as well

emm005 · 31/08/2018 23:18

What do you wear underneath gym leggings to avoid Vpl? Is there such thing as comfy VPL proof underwear?

Pinkyyy · 31/08/2018 23:21

emm005

I always go with a thing or G-string and wouldn't wear anything else under leggings, I do have a real pet peeve for VPLs though

PhillyJoe · 01/09/2018 11:21

emma005 I run and have tried all sorts of underwear including very expensive ones. The best ones I've found are M&S No VPL bikinis but in a much bigger size than normal. Very comfortable and don't show 👍

OP posts:
Almondio · 01/09/2018 14:31

I'm not fussed about vpl at all, I just wear normal undies and figure if someone sees the outline, then they're not focusing enough on their own workout! Grin

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 01/09/2018 20:17

I have some Adidas long black leggings with three stripes down the sides that I run in. I hate my legs but they actually look okay in them, and they don’t bag or fall down. They come in a good range of sizes too.

dementedpixie · 01/09/2018 20:22

I like my Matalan cropped leggings

bibblebobblebubble · 01/09/2018 21:07

Another vote for Sweaty Betty zero gravity leggings (not the yoga ones - they are thinner). The zero gravity ones are a great fabric and never fall down. They are £££ though.... sign up for emails and you get special offers
