I’ve agreed to do a charity thing which involves me working with a team of people. We will be climbing the steps at a local national trust place to equal the height of Mount Everest 😱.
I have to do 16 ups (and downs). I think there are 8 of us doing 16 each- it’s a long flight of stairs.
I am not fit. Not fit at all. I think I might actually die doing this (there will be medically trained people at the bottom and top of the steps).
I have until 6/10 to prepare. Please help me!

Wjust don’t do it. Work out how much you could possibly raise in sponsorship (say £200 for instance) and then do overtime at work for the same amount and donate it. Job done. Charity still collects the money, you still have your dignity...

You have plenty of time to train if you want to do it. Find out how many stairs in each flight, then find some steps outside or I'm sure there's a machine in gyms that would do the same. Try to get out 3 times week, start slowly and with fewer steps then build up. If you can do anything else, such as swimming, cycling or brisk walking as well that would help your aerobic fitness. You can do it!

Have you got access to the stairs? If so, I'd start off this week going up (and down) twice, maybe 3 times through in the week (more if you can), then next week add another flight etc. You've got 2.5 months to train, so that will be a great start.

Oh I want to do it. It will represent a minute fraction of the struggles my best friend has gone through and will raise awareness of an amazing charity- changing faces.
I always take the stairs where I can. Just need to up it. These stairs are 45 minutes away from me so I can’t go there regularly but perhaps DH and I can start going there at weekends to walk the woofers. He can take them up and walk along while I go up and down a few times.

Even just get a step & do lots of step ups.

It's a staple exercise in Crossfit, albeit a bigger step up onto a box, got me very much fitter.

Get efficient at stepping, it's a skill, as the coming down needs control.

I worked in a building and worked on the 12th floor. We were disciplined if we were late after lunch. One day I got back to the lifts and there was a queue as one lift was down. I was in my final late allowance and no way could I afford to be even a minute late with my bitch boss and this lift situation was really threatening my super crap job with a huge corporation of dickheads.

I ran up the 12 floors. I am thee biggest couch potato ever. I’m not gonna lie I felt like utter shit and was dripping with sweat and once my boss had seen me I was all good to go die temporarily in the loos. But that was with no practise whatsoever. You can do this I reckon!
I also worked in another building on 16th floor and a fire alarm ensured I got to experience going down the stairs as well. That was super easy in comparison. I just remember feeling a little dizzy from keep going round and round each stairwell.
