lightweight running shoes- ideas?

ProperLavs · 29/06/2018 14:54

I used to run a lot as much off road as possible- over downland. I hate wearing running shoes so used to wear the vibram 5 fingers which I loved.
I had to stop running due to injury a few years back. Downland running no longer an option but really want to find a pair of very lightweight running shoes.
I have an old pair of skechers go run' which I like, but they do need replacing.
Please can anyone recommend very lightweight running shoes that they love?
many thanks Smile

I had inov8 but can't remember which type. They were incredibly light and breathable. Not hugely cushioned so better when doing more trails than road, but very comfortable.
I've got salamon at the moment which are very structured and more like an approach shoe. Much preferred the inov8

ProperLavs · 29/06/2018 16:06

Thank you I'll check those out. I read about the salamon- they're quite expensive aren't they?

Well mine came from somewhere cheap and awful (online/sportsdirect cant quite remember) which might be why I don't like them as much as I didn't get properly advised/fitted. I was seduced by a bargain!

Have you been to a proper running shop for advice? That's what I did for the inov8 -and then bought them online Blush-

ProperLavs · 29/06/2018 17:57

I did once, years ago, a specialist running shop. I came away with shoes so heavy I could have used them as moon boots.
I basically need shoes that are so light they are almost not there weight wise.
I like my go run but I am sure even lighter shoes exist.

As a teen when I did school comps they were always on grass and I refused to wear any shoes.

I bought some Asics Windhawks from Decathlon. They were only €40 so I thought I might as well. They’re very light and supposedly for jogging rather than serious running, but they’re the only running shoes I’ve had that don’t give me blisters so they’ve replaced my proper running shoes now.

My lightest running shoes have been my sauconys but I can't remember the model. My general go to pair are good ol' asic gels

AuntieStella · 30/06/2018 11:39

I was going to suggest Saucony too. And On.

ProperLavs · 30/06/2018 12:09

Thanks. I am checking all of these out Smile

I wear Merrell Vapor Glove shoes, they are very lightweight.

If you want light, and don't like cushioning vivobarefoots are ridiculously light

Iceweasel · 30/06/2018 12:24

I used to wear vivobarefoots but I found that the sole came unstuck from the upper. I still have some boots and my child has school shoes where they are stitched on, but for running shoes I buy Merrells now. They may have improved in the last few years, I don't know.

ProperLavs · 30/06/2018 13:10

Are the barefoot basically the same as the vibram 5 fingers?

Vivobarefoot and Merrell Vapor Gloves are foot shaped, giving you more room in the toebox, but all the toes together like a regular shoe. They are zero drop with a thin sole. Merrells have a Vibram sole.

ProperLavs · 30/06/2018 13:45

Thanks- do you run road or trail. I wore my vibrant on down land so grass and stones track. I didn't Like toad running in them.

ON A Swiss brand, are pretty light. I find them a bit inflexible though

ProperLavs · 30/06/2018 14:47

Oh dear, I'm vibrantly toad running.

I do a mix, trail running one night a week while my son is in Scouts, road running for convenience. If there is grass I will run on the grass through.

My son has Karrimor Duma which are a pretty light, cheap running shoe, 240g (mine are 150g). He just has them for everyday wear though so I only know that they are light, not what they are like for running in.

Toofle · 30/06/2018 17:14

Vibrant Toads rule.

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/06/2018 17:21

I'm another inov8 fan. They have some really light trainers - although I use them more for when I travel and use gyms when travelling (keeps the weight of my case down) or for weight training. I need something heftier for actual running.

With inov8, the number in the name of the trainer is the weight of the shoe. So for example, the X-Talon 218 weighs 218g. Makes it easier to find the lightest trainers. Smile

Mine are new balance minimus. I like them but haven’t tried another brand to compare.
