Not aching after PT session

I've started working with a PT 2x a week. I ached a lot after my first 2 weeks, had to take a break for a week, then found that I didn't ache after returning to my PT sessions. Does this mean my sessions are not affective? We are gradually increasing reps rather than the heaviness of weights

Just to add - I do feel stronger already as I'm finding it easier to lift 2 yr old DS for longer periods (he's a chunk)

Ummm, maybe. Or it may just be that your muscles were shocked at first but now aren't.

Are you not increasing weights at all? If you are doing more than 15 reps then the weight might not be enough...

The pain after a workout, providing it's not an injury of course, is caused by tiny tears in your muscles that then rebuild and strengthen. Over time the pain may get less, but that's because your muscles are stronger so are tearing less, the workout also won't be as much of a shock to the muscles as they are getting used to it.

It doesn't mean that your workout is ineffective, just that you're getting stronger. Obviously, the stronger you get the more you can push yourself and workout harder.

I don't exercise at all @LordEmsworth so we are taking it slow - two sets of 10 reps for 2 sessions, then 11 reps, then 12, then back to 11 I believe

I’ve been training for years and if your squeezing the muscle on every rep and going beyond your comfort zone then your not going to get soreness. Take today’s session for instance which was legs I get to 8 reps and it’s hard by 12 I’m not at all comfortable but have to push through that mindset and get to 15.

On my deadlift which was up 100 kg today I did drop sets so 12 reps at 100 then 90 , 80 70 with just a 60 second rest between sets. I train hard and heavy legs shaking for quite a time afterwards and the pump was huge.

I’m dripping in sweat when I’ve done and air con was blazing to really change your mindset and push through the uncomfortable bit is where the magic happens.

Muscle memory - proprioception. We tend to be lazy - not intentionally - just that our bodies try to find the easiest way to do something.
