Been steadily increasing distance over 5 weeks as I'm a newbie at this.I can see a difference in my arms and general weight loss but not my lower half which is weird as it does all the work

You can't spot reduce fat. Fat will be last on - first off. Everyone has a fat-holding spot. Mine is my belly. Sounds like yours is hips and thighs. You're probably firming up muscles underneath the fat, but you can't see it until the fat goes.

Like I said, I hold fat on my belly (bad for overall health). I would have to be gaunt in the face and flat-chested to get a six pack. That's just the way it is.

Fat will always disappear last on the most stubborn areas that you have. Whenever I lose weight I always end up with a thin face and a flat stomach but my thighs and bums take forever to get smaller.

Ok this makes sense

I've been running fairly seriously since about the end of January (training for a half-marathon) and while my thighs have definitely muscled up, even with a fair amount of hill work, I haven't seen much of an effect on my arse. I would say I didn't really see major muscle changes until about 2 months in, when I was probably running for about 2 hours a week. I also did a session of strength training and a mixed gym session once a week.

I agree that everyone has areas where they hold fat for the longest, too.

Running will firm up your legs far more than your bum, far better strength training for your bum, squats, lunges etc
