Swim Times

I am just getting back into swimming regularly but not sure on how fast/far I should be swimming. I just swam 2k in 42 minutes (in a pool, not open water). Can anyone advise on whether that’s a good time or what I should be aiming for?

Also any advice on training? Swimming up and down can get very boring so any workouts you can suggest would be great.

Thank you!!

Surely you fib... must know that's very good compared to most people?
Ask if your pool offers swimtag; they have all sorts of programmes, challenges & comparisons.

Wow, no I’m not lying. I enjoy swimming but haven’t timed myself/done anything competitive since I was about 14. Just trying to get an idea of what I should be aiming for from more experienced swimmers.

I will look into swimtag, thank you.

I'm looking for a current swimthread - I'm doing 1k in 40minutes so you're twice as fast as me! We dont have swim tag but I'm looking for ideas.

That works out at just over 2 mins per 100m, which is good. It depends what your aiming for really. Compared to a large proportion of the population, that is an amazingly fast time, compared to good amateur swimmers, then not so fast. I swim with a squad of enthusiastic amateur swimmers, there are 4 lanes, 1-4 in decreasing order of speed. I swim in lane 3 and I swim 1:41 per 100m at the moment (over longer distances). So There are a lot of other swimmers loads faster than me. However, at the local pool in the public lanes you would be a lot faster than a lot of people.
