Crossfit, anyone?

It’s something that’s always intrigued me as I love the idea of getting stronger, always loved weights. A friend of mine has been doing Crossfit for about 18months and it’s totally changed her life. She’s lost about 7 stone, is mega fit and strong.

Walking through my town yesterday I see a Crossfit box has opened! They are established, just moved from a nearby town to here. The opening hours are great, as is the price. Your first month you get unlimited 1:1 sessions until you know what you’re doing. Got my friend to run her eyes over their website and she said it looked good.

I’m tempted. Anyone here do it?

I'd love to give it a go but not sure where to start so I'll be watching this thread with interest

I used to. It is a great way to get into lifting/free weights and it’s generally very friendly. Give it a go. All the movements are scalable so there’s always something you can do.

@Givemyheadpeace I have no idea where to start either!

But the place I’m going to look at gives 1:1 sessions for the first month so hopefully by then I’ll know what I’m doing and if I like it.

Best thing ever for me and my friends who started last year too. Each box / coaches will be slightly different and I guess some better than others , but on the whole its a really fun, positive thing to be part of.

to start, just brave it and go! you'll be fine :) there will be other relative newbies too.

Againfaster · 06/04/2018 14:48

oops sorry for spam - but don't be put off if u find it exhausting at first, even doing relatively simple things. Your fitness improves very quickly over the first few months

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 06/04/2018 23:37

My local place seems to only be open at certain times, is that the norm?

CurlsandCurves · 07/04/2018 09:06

I’ve heard some have funny opening hours. Mine is open 6.30am till9pm, but shuts 12-3.

@Againfaster how often do/should you train per week? How long is a session WOD?

It depends on your existing level of exercise and fitness, but i started with 3x a week which saw fast improvements, allowed recovery time but also kept you moving often enough to not feel like you were starting from the beginning again each week.
Most people in my box go 4-5 times a week now, but that's more just because they enjoy it rather than needing to go that often for the fitness side of it.
Ive now built it up to do mon/Tuesday and thurs/fri. Muscle soreness (in the good way) is now very manageable at that level.

The whole class lasts an hour but that is usually split into a 15 min warm up. maybe around 20 mins learning or progressing a certain lifting technique or whatever you will be doing for the real workout part, and then the 10-20 minute actual workout.10 mins sounds short but the shorter the workout the more Intense it is :)

My london crossfit it open all day with classes every hour as its busy, but when i go to others out of london they have shorter hours. they do this just because they have less people going through the middle of the day due to work and they often work as Personal trainers (or anything else) elsewhere alongside running the crossfit gym at peak hours.

Johnnycomelately1 · 08/04/2018 03:00

Mine does classes 5/6/7/8 am, 12pm and 6/7pm. It is open all day for people to work out or PT sessions but there isn't the demand mid-morning and mid-afternoon to run classes.
