So I really need some advice, I'm due to run a 5k in 5 weeks time for charity.
I'm slightly active as in I walk everyday as I don't drive but that's about the extent of it.
Anyone give me any advice on how I can get myself ready for this? I managed to run half a mile without stopping today but I was on the verge of passing out after Blush
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

Look up the C25K programme, it'll get you to 5k in that timeframe.

5km is a really fun distance, you should be fine in 5 weeks. Definitely look up the couch to 5k programme. This is generally 9 weeks but if you're doing half a mile, which is not that far off 1km you'll be OK.

Do not be afraid to start with running/walking, so run a minute, walk a minute or whatever feels comfortable. I still do a bit of walking with my running. It makes it a bit more manageable.

Good luck!

Park run is 5k and free to do- if you have a local one it's a great place to do the distance in company of all abilities and hopefully get some confidence

Try Zombies! Run!

Much the same as C25K but with a storyline...

Don't try to run too much all in a stretch. You can do half a mile, but not reliably. Start at walk/run programme at or near the very beginning and you'll actually get most of the way to 5k in the time available.

Alternate 2 mins jogging with 1 min walking, and you'll get round faster than you expect, and much faster than if you try to run for longer than you are used to.

Parkrun is fabulous, and my single piece of advice to say that my regret is not starting Parkrun sooner. Very friendly and fine to walk all/some of it.

Oh, and get a good bra.
