I want to do a half marathon -- but walking, not running

Is this even a thing? I can't see how I can fit running into my life with a full time job and a toddler, and I like walking. I can do it in my lunch break without needing a shower afterwards and take the toddler in the buggy at the weekend. Will it be strange if I sign up for a race on this basis? I need a push towards getting fitter but need to be realistic about what I can achieve. Are there any particularly walker-friendly half marathons? Many thanks for your advice.

"Why don’t you just get a map, go out and walk 13 miles? I honestly don’t think that’s beyond most people."

I guess the Same reason runners don't just get a map oou. They want to take part in an event.

I did this recently. My running training had been plagued by injury, illness etc and soon after I set off running I was in pain, so decided to walk the rest.

It was fine! I was towards the end of the race (obviously) but there were people slower than me who I think completed it in just over 4 hours.

Do one with plenty of things to see though as you're on your feet a while!

I think runners do look at maps 😄.

Check the time limits. You might get picked up by the sweeper and disqualified. Larger road events will allow people to to pushed in wheelchairs for charity so have longer time limits. Just don’t take the piss out of the marshals by dawdling.
