Oohhh I've discovered running!!

I've finally taken the plunge and decided to get my fat backside running!! I'm not unfit as such, currently my main form of exercise is muay Thai 3 times a week, and strength work, but my word running is a whole different game!!!

Anyway, I toddled off to the running shop, had my gait analysis done and now own some garish blue trainers that stop my ankles rolling in, then I hit the gym...... Wow!!

Have looked at the C25K app, but I'm not a great one for structure, so decided to just run 5k, stopping when needed, pausing the fitbit and then setting it off again when I recovered. In total it took me 40 mins...... Please don't laugh lol.

Anyway, that was yesterday and I'm already dying to go back and run some more! What's happening to me????

(Please don't worry, Ive done lots and lots of sport/exercise through the years so I know the importance of rest days etc)

I fully recognise this is the most pointless post ever but people in real life are getting bored of hearing me talk about it lol!

Well done! I need to find an easy way to get fit and tone up. I’ve never been able to run, but I’m going to follow your example and get my gait looked at and fitted with proper trainers. I will run to save my life

Fabulous! I’m doing c25k because I can’t get used to breathing and running Grin

Brilliant, well done! I hope you continue to enjoy it. And 40 minutes is a perfectly respectable time. Be careful, it's addictive....!

MrsJoshDun · 02/03/2018 07:53

40 mins is a great time for your first 5k. Think mine was about 45 mins when I got back into running last year.

Am now doing sub 35 min Park Runs. And hoping to do sub 30 soon.

Don’t do too much too soon though, I made that mistake and injured myself and had to have 3 months off running.

Me too! We bought a treadmill in September and it gathered dust a bit. I decided my new year commitment to myself was to use the bloody thing! I love it!!

The first time I ran 1k I was sick (1st jan). By beginning Feb I ran my first 5k. I challenged myself to run 50k in February, and I actually ended up doing 69.5km. My challenge for March is 75km. I know the treadmill isn’t for everyone and I will hopefully venture outside too, but for now I find that I push myself more when I can see the distance/time ticking away.

This week I’ve been playing around with programmes so I did 30 minutes of 30sec jog/1 minute sprints. I would never have done this if I was running outside. I was so unfit, and feeling really miserable; running has improved my mood so much!

Keep it up OP!

I have just started the couch to 5k app and can now run for 20 mins at a time, I am actually quite annoyed that the snow has interrupted my running schedule and I never thought I would ever say such a thing!Shock

Well done. I have just rediscovered running and its companion joy ‘hurty knee’ - you sound like you have a good base to start from, but don’t build your speed or distance too fast, follow a plan. Are you going to try a Park Run, a local 5k or 10k race (don’t worry about times, loads of different people do them and its fun at the back, you’re beating all the people on the couch etc). Or a virtual race. I use the Runkeeper App (tells you your pace, distance etc at pre set points.

Running is brilliant, I really enjoy it. From bring a non-runner I can now go 5k on the treadmill in under 24 minutes :) such an achievement for me as I’m not the smallest person around (top of my bmi for height but am muscly)

user5trillion if you google tips on running in the snow it shouldn't have to stop you getting out. I didn't go Monday cos of the cold but was advised on here as long as avoid icy paths it's ok and I've been out since twice- you'll be far slower but it uses different muscles so still worth doing
