Running question

werekitty · 25/02/2018 08:12

I run regularly, started off with c25k and continued with that for a couple of years and do a longer run on Saturdays. I did 13k yesterday in 1hr33.

Have now entered a 10 miler in April but am also considering a half marathon in May, is this achievable? Any advice on a training plan?

Definitely achievable, and well done on your progress so far! There are a lot of Hal marathon plans. Some people like MyAsics which adapts to you pace, magazine sites like women's running and runner's world also have plans. Choose one that is doable in the time you have per week. I like plans that have a bit of variety in the types of runs. Good luck!

Dont run ! Drink gin x

EmmaGellerGreen · 25/02/2018 10:05

Definitely achievable, I've never run more than 10 miles when training for a half. If you can do 10, you can do a half!

Definitely achievable.

Although: some food for thought... I have run many half marathons and four marathons (pre DC), and although they bring a great sense of achievement they are not actually the best thing for your body or fitness.

My personal trainer (I have one because I don't have much spare time at the moment and really need to get the most out of my exercise time) has been working with me a lot on core strength and injury prevention. I'm doing a 10k in March and I suggested going back to longer distances, but his advice from a pure fitness perspective is to stick to 5k and 10k and try to get a bit faster. Plus do plenty of exercise which is not running.

Just thought I'd mention it in case useful..

You sound fitter than I am, and I’m doing a half-marathon next weekend Shock

If you can do a 10 Miles in April, you can def do a half marathon in May. Go for it OP

The London half Sammy?

Thanks all.

Have just entered the Leeds half marathon! I just want to do this once to say that I could do it and Leeds looks very inclusive.

Yup, definitely doable!

I've done one 10 mile event and have my first half marathon soon. I started running with C25K about 18months ago, and run 10ks frequently, with the odd longer or harder run (hills/intervals)

I don't have any ambition to do a marathon, though. Or will that change if I get to like doing 13.1??

Sammysquiz · 25/02/2018 22:02

ThroughThickAndThin01 It’s the Bath Half-Marathon I’m doing. Am watching the weather forecast with trepidation, looks like I’ll be running in my snow-boots Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/02/2018 22:07

Good luck Sammysquiz, hope it doesn’t snow! Looks like I’ll be running in a raincoat 😀

AuntieStella · 05/03/2018 19:14

Just dropping by to commiserate Sammysquiz on the loss of your event. Or did you turn up and run the Unofficial?

Sammysquiz · 05/03/2018 21:39

Thanks AuntieStella! I didn’t do the unofficial one, but now wish I had. I was pretty nervous about doing it anyway, and felt I’d struggle without the crowd support and the adrenaline of running with thousands of others. But turns out so many people did it unofficially that I would’ve still felt part of something big!

It did feel good to crack the wine open on Saturday though! I’ve had no alcohol in ages because of all the training, so as soon as the cancellation was announced I felt I was justified in having a long-awaited glass or two Grin

I’m going to do the Bristol one instead, which isn’t til September, so got some time to put in some proper training.

Very, Very, Very achievable. Speed sessions mixed with the distance work will pull down the time but really you've done 85% of the work!
