Achilles pain

Anyone else struggling with a dodgy Achilles? Not a rupture and it doesn't hurt loads. It's just sore, with a bit of a lump on the back of my heel, and it's worse after a run.

Has anyone fixed this with exercises? Would it be really silly to go running?

lump, eek?!
I've had Achilles tendonintis & still have a grumbling issue going on.
Do you know what caused your Achilles problem?

DON'T DO THAT ANY MORE, for now. Give it a rest.
I still went running but running didn't cause my Achilles problems.
There are stretching routines you can do, look on youtube for ideas. Don't do anything that hurts.

I hit the gym yesterday after 5 months off with the same problem - painful Achilles with a bump on it.
Resting as much as I can hasn’t had much effect, although I work 8+ hour shifts on my feet, so I decided to try c25k on the treadmill.
Today it’s stiff and a little painful but no worse than normal.

Sorry not a lot of help!

I have Achilles trouble but no lump. For me, running made it a whole lot better as it was exercising it and stretching it out. I think the lump makes a big difference as to how you should treat it and you should get advice from a physio.

Yes, achilles pain with a lump on the tendon. I had it for 6 months before I finally went to the GP, got told it was very mild achilles tendonitis and to take paracetamol and do some exercises. Two months on and it's worse. Can't do the exercises because they aggravate it and painkillers make no difference at all. Went back to the GP this week, and got told the same again by a different GP. I put my foot down (painfully!!) and demanded a referral, which the doctor eventually, and reluctantly, agreed to. I now have to wait 6 weeks for that.

Watching with interest cos I thought it was wearing flip-flops / bare feet, but even proper shoes, or sitting cross-legged makes my Achilles hurt! Same lumps on tendons.

Doesn’t matter if on my arse for 48 hours or walking 15k, first time standing or walking, I hobble like a hobbley thing. Tis not right I tell ya! And it annoys me.

What is it??

I had a painful Achilles and eventually went to a physio. She diagnosed extremely flat feet, and very tight leg muscles and gave me exercises to complete. I also had a biomechanical assessment from which I was told to wear particular insoles with a slight raise on the inside of my foot. I was told not to do any exercise which would repeatedly stress my Achilles until it was better (I was asking about hiit; I'm not a runner) but that eg weight training would be ok. I wasn't diligent with my exercises and have now got pain in both Achilles. However, when I did the exercises, and when I did kettlebells, it was much better. Google exercises for Achilles, there's lots of stretching you can do. Foam rolling also meant to be good, I am trying that at the moment. Good luck - I know how debilitating it can be!

Sorry to hear you are all struggling too.

So I went to see a physio who my running friend recommended. He has told me to do calf raises with a weight. It hurts like hell when I do them but he assured me that was a good thing. Confused

I went to the gym yesterday and it hurt a bit afterwards but feels much better today. The lump is still there though.

I'm going to avoid running for now and keep going with the exercises and some foam rollering. It's so frustrating.
