Exercising more than ever but jeans now tighter than ever?!

I've started exercising in the last 2 months after a long time of not doing much. I've been doing 2 classes a week involving strength exercises, some weights, kettlebells etc. I've also been trying to walk half an hour a day.

This weekend my jeans have hardly done up and the thigh part is so tight! I don't think I've been eating more so a bit gutted when I could barely do my jeans up. Could my body shape be changing already with the increased exercise but actually getting bigger?

Probably not. Have you weighed yourself? It's pretty hard to lose weight from exercise alone.

It could be, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You should be looking for more muscle growth, the fat loss will come in time. What is your diet like?

Bluntness100 · 28/01/2018 22:02

For two classes a week, I would suspect the issue is your diet. You're possibly sub consciously eating more due to the increased exercise. I would suggest keeping a food diary or everything, and I mean everything, you eat, and importantly drink.

Bluntness100 · 28/01/2018 22:03

It could be

It's hugely unlikely, it takes an enormous amount of effort for a woman to become very muscular. Weights and strength exercises make women leaner.

Unless op you're very small already?

MayFayner · 28/01/2018 22:05

My thighs get a bit bigger when I'm exercising regularly but I naturally have skinny thighs (I carry my weight around my middle- apple shape).

EggsonHeads · 28/01/2018 22:06

Maybe you are gaining muscle but not loosing any fat? How much are you eating?

Honey1975 · 28/01/2018 22:07

Oh bugger I must be eating more than I realise! I am quite small 5'3".
I guess I need to pay closer attention to what I'm eating although I'd say my diet is pretty good. I do however like wine 😩

The booze could be a factor yes.

As said, keep a food and drink diary, I suspect you will realise you've been consuming more. Maybe subconsciously you think uou can because of the exercise, so aren't recognising it.

No one can say for sure, but the odds are overwhelming this is diet.

Honey1975 · 28/01/2018 22:14

Thanks Bluntness so presumably it's ok to eat more but just needs to be good non fattening foods?

OP posts:

Not really no. It really depends on your diet.

If you're eating normally, ie not kept, it doesn't matter if it's good foods, if you eat/drink more calories over a week than you burn off you will gain weight. If you eat/drink less you will lose weight. It doesn't matter if it's good food, it's all calories.

All foods are fattening if you eat enough of them, there is no such thing as a non fattening food, it simply doesn't exist.

Bluntness100 · 28/01/2018 22:17

Not keto sorry,

Honey1975 · 28/01/2018 22:20

Ok thank you

Wine is fattening.
