From 5k to 10K+?

I am a new runner. I have been able to do a few 5k runs, fairly slowly but starting to find them easier now.
I'd really like to get up to doing 10K but not sure what is the best way to do it?
I can get out 3 times a week (one is parkrun). Is it best to add 1 km a week or more?? Should I do one 5k and 2x 6km next week for example?
I'd like to do it right so that I have not overdone it or caused injury etc.

General advice is to increase by no more than 10% distance a week, with one longer run and rest usual length. Easy to overdo it and end up injured. Good luck.

I did it by running twice a week. First run I always do around 5km, second run I’d run for 1km more than I’d done the week before. Now up to 12km, which I never imagined I’d be able to do!

Good luck with it - I found getting up to 5km is the hardest bit, and adding on distance after that isn’t too bad.

I'd agree that getting to 5k is the hardest bit!

I'm on the last week of C25k... watching with interest. (I must have rose tinted glasses. This afternoon I didn't think I could run another step!!)

Ok thanks. That sounds very do-able - just adding distance onto one run. I'm in no rush but would like to manage the 10K at some stage. So many friends have injured knees etc which is why I want to be careful!
