Urgh rain

Does anyone actually go for a run when's it's incessantly pissing it down?
I was really keen to get back into the running today after a couple of weeks off for various reasons but I just can bring myself to get out when it's so horribly wet!
It feels like I'm making excuses but surely most people don't run in this weather?

I quite like running in the rain! If it's really hapeavy I will start off with a waterproof jacket on but that usually comes off within a mile. I always wear a cap to keep the water off my glasses and that's it. After a while you are so wet you really don't notice! As my dad always said, skin is waterproof!

Pinkvici22 · 21/01/2018 18:06

I did it today for the first time! It wasn’t raining heavy when I went out but by the time I was about 2km away from home it was raining incessantly. By that point I was soaking so I carried on, and managed 6km. It was hard doing hills in the rain though! I wore a cap and 4 layers of tops (and they were ALL wet!).

I suppose it felt good, but the best but was getting into a hot shower after!!

hockityponktas · 21/01/2018 18:24

Oh. Just me thenGrin
Argh I just can't bring myself to do it!
I did run in the rain once, when it started raining suddenly half way round. It wasn't nice.

I feel like a superhero when i run in really heavy rain. Try it, its fun, honest!

AnnPerkins · 22/01/2018 14:29

I ran in the rain on Saturday. I really didn't want to go out but forced myself to and had my most enjoyable run in ages. The rain on my face felt lovely and cooling on the last mile.

I get very hot so don't wear a waterproof or a hat, just a long-sleeve top. If it's below 1deg I wear a zip-up one to keep my neck warm at first, but still end up having to unzip it.

If it had been windy I probably wouldn't have gone. I hate running in the wind.

Stradbroke · 22/01/2018 14:34

I ran in the snow yesterday. It was lovely.

CottonEyeJosephine · 22/01/2018 14:41

Love running in ‘bad’ weather, rain, snow wind etc. Feels like a better workout somehow. Had a nice long run in the snow yesterday and really enjoyed it.

lirpaloof · 22/01/2018 14:41

I have really struggled this past week with the weather. I hate running in the rain but have a half marathon next month to train for! Yesterday I decided that enough was enough and maybe the reality wasn't as bad once I got out there. How wrong I was! It was hideous from start to finish and I hated every minute of it :(

ragged · 22/01/2018 17:04

I go swimming, instead. (in the real pool, not the puddles on the road). Can handle light rain, but I hate having wet feet.

hockityponktas · 22/01/2018 17:49

I decided to woman up and go and then it stopped raining anyway!
I ended up getting very wet feet still which was bad enoughBlush

Those of you that ran in the snow, wasn't it super slippy?! It's hard enough walking in the snow!

@lirpaloof hope it's not raining on marathon day😳

I don’t mind drizzle rain but don’t enjoy the downpours rain when running. I’ll set off in mild rain but not heavy, I’d rather go swimming or do dvd indoors and chalk it up to cross training Grin

Redwineistasty · 22/01/2018 17:57

Rain makes me run faster! It does take more effort to get out in the 1st place though.
It’s the cold I hate the most!

HelenaJustina · 22/01/2018 18:01

You burn more calories exercising when it’s colder. That’s all the incentive I usually need!

hockityponktas · 22/01/2018 18:02

@HelenaJustina don't mind the cold, just hate it when it's wet!

OP posts:
HelenaJustina · 22/01/2018 18:05

Sorry, wasn’t clear, I feel much colder when wet so feel like I’m burning more! Agree with the pp that I feel more virtuous and superhero like when running in crappy weather.

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/01/2018 14:03

Rain is fine but I hate running in a strong wind. Especially into it!

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2018 14:05

Not just you OP. I'm totally a fairweather runner and run on the treadmill most of the time

I was once told that there;s more oxygen in the air when it's raining so should be easier if it weren't so fucking miserable but I don't know if that's true or not

CottonEyeJosephine · 24/01/2018 06:44

Thick snow is generally fine, or if it’s just coming down but above freezing. I do have ice grippers for my running shoes when needed though, and try to stay off road as much as possible.

hockityponktas · 24/01/2018 16:52

Ooh ice grippers I didn't know you could get those, will have to have a look. That will be one less excuseGrin
