Ok so I appear to have extremely wide feet ie have to buy clarks 'wide fit in flats or EEE in heels.

I currently wear a pair of brooks D fit a in a size 6.5 (usually a 6) unfortunately they slip on the ankle - I have tried 'lace locking' but that hurts the top of my foot !!
In addition to this even though they are wide enough the tongue appears to gape underneath the lace area, its as if there isn't enough height/space between the insole and the tongue for my foot ( ?hope that makes sense)

The most comfortable pair I ever had were new balance 'D fit' (years ago) but I'm of the understanding that new balance weren't a particularly quality brand (for running shoes)

I 'm on the 3rd pair of running shoes this year at £100 plus per pair and have a half marathon in 12 weeks so any suggestions on what to try next would be most welcome.

I think I'm a 5.5EEE.
I actually wear 7s.
Sports Direct have been ok for me.
My feet are slightly different. Maybe right is 5.5EEE and left is 6EE or 6.5EE, so nothing is ever gonna be perfect.

I like a wide toe box and I wear Altras

New Balance are great trainers - not sure why you think otherwise. You have to chose a style designed for running, not fashion (or other sport), but they are excellent shoes

I often wear men's trainers, as they seem to be wider than women's (and less pink)

Bluedoglead · 09/01/2018 20:01

Ds wears new balance all the time for running and he has feet like boats.

PragmaticWench · 09/01/2018 20:02

I've found Saucony and also Brookes GTS have been wide across the front of my foot but slim enough around the heel.

randomsabreuse · 09/01/2018 20:05

Mizuno Wave works for me (wide forefoot, narrow heel). New Balance are generally a decent brand for running shoes but they discontinued the ones I liked...

For trail innov8 are supposed to have some good shoes but I'm making do with cheapo Karrimoors for now as my feet actually fit in them and impact is less crucial for muddy trails...

You need a men’s wide fit.

Men’s normal fit is like a women’s wide. Men’s wide fit is like a women’s extra wide.

I always get the men’s wide shoe but then I have big feet (7) so men’s come in that size. If you had smaller feet maybe they wouldn’t stock your size in the men’s shoe.

I also wear a clarks wide fit (in fact sometimes these are too narrow). I always wear mens Brooks trainers. I also always get them fitted in Sweatshop, so I know they are fine before I leave the shop.

Not abnormally wide feet.

Lots of women who wear barefoot shoes have a similar width.

Thank You
I didn't expect any replies !

Brilliant Idea re trying a mans shoe ,I am a size 6 and a bit of 'googleing' shows a few options (at bargain sale prices too)

I think that I will order a few options and see if I can find my 'holy grail'

Thank You again

+1 for Altras.
Also Nikes are quite roomy, and inov8 have a nice round toe box

SocksRock · 11/01/2018 16:23

I wear mens shoes (in a size 9) and they are super comfy. I've tried a couple of pairs of women's 9's and they aren't as wide

hopeful123 · 27/01/2018 00:19

Altra for me as well. Got broad feet and would not wear anything else now - it has to be zero drop

UrgentScurryfunge · 28/01/2018 00:22

Currently using On Cloud Flyers. I have horrendous short, square, high feet and have to weave some odd lacing patterns to avoid my instep.

I don't understand adult widths. The last time my feet were measured they were 1.5 H, but that was actually too narrow to get my foot in.

My strategy is to ask the shop for the shortest widest shoe they have and workout if it's wide enough yet not fall over the suplus inch+ at the end.
Mens shoes are not an option'
