Kettlebell workout

I've started doing 3 kettlebell workouts a week and I was wondering if this will be enough to tone up gradually or will I need to mix it up with other cardio or running to see results?

I'm using a very low weight at the moment but I'm going to work my way up when I perfect the technique, at the moment I ache so much the next day on my legs and bum I can't face going up yet Blush

I mix it with HIIT and yoga. Lots of online bodycoach workouts are good, he does a cardio kettlebells one which may be good for you.
I am about to embark on the January yoga with Adrien programme too.
Good luck!

Thank you! Do you go yoga or do you do it from home? Yoga might be good for me in between kettlebell days for stretching these aching muscles.

I do one taught class a week, the rest is online with 'yoga with adriene'- free and great as long as you can put up with the accent!

I hope i’m not derailing OP, but do you mind if I ask what kB workouts you are doing? I got a set for Christmas, but have no idea where to start! There are thousands on you tube. I’d really appreciate it if you could recommend what might be good for a total beghiner? Thanks.

never forget cardio - even in a weight based work out getting in cardio can really help with your fitness and general health
even lowering the weight and higher speed to get your heart going

Frolicacid for the moment I have been watching and doing the body coach video for beginners kettlebell workout and watching the longer video he made with examples of perfecting the correct techniques as I want to do it properly, rather than just throwing it about.

There isn't much of a cool down or stretching after though, so I've been going on to fitness blender to make sure I stretch properly after as your leg muscles will definitely feel it the next day Shock you definitely get out of breath and sweaty. Looking forward to seeing how my legs will look by the summer if I keep it up.

Bellini, body coach does some
Good warm ups and a brilliant 'stretch and cool down' which I love but it is a little long- there are shorter ones by him online

Bellini81 · 01/01/2018 16:59

Oh does he? Great, I'll check them out. Thank you.

Thanks, i’ll Check out the body coach.

If you do kettlebells properly it will hit cardio as well as strength so you don't need to run etc.

Push the weight up though. What weight are you using at present and what are you doing?

Bellini81 · 01/01/2018 20:41

I'm embarrassed to admit I'm using a 4kg but I have an 8kg waiting in the wings for when I feel ready to move up (hopefully in a few weeks) I'm doing around 40 mins of exercise with it 3 x a week so far and I'm really puffed out after and aching a lot the next day so I must be doing something to the muscles.

Put the 4 away, you can do the 8.

What's in the workout?

Bellini81 · 01/01/2018 21:04

The normal two handed swing, goblet squats, single handed swing, suitcase deadlift and more I can't think of. Okay I'll see if I can cope with the 8kg tomorrow... I'm scared Grin

I found that variety is the best way to keen motivated. The 'toning up' is only part of the benefit that I find exercise gives me - social is so much more I find. Best way I've found is by doing a variety of different exercises and find local activities that run

Greenteandchives · 02/01/2018 14:25

Remember to pull your pelvic floor up tight when you do the kettlebell swings, as this is not a great move for you if you have any ‘issues’ in that area. Just saying...

RJnomore1 · 02/01/2018 15:13

You can do all of them with the 8kg although if you're a bit uncertain at the one handed swing illlet you away with the 4kg for it!

Ashamedandblamed · 02/01/2018 15:14

If you mix between the 4 and 8 it will make the four seem harder. I prefer to switch between low and high throughout workouts.

Can't explain I'm no PT just from experience.

Bellini81 · 02/01/2018 16:15

I used the 8kg today..and it was actually okay. I think I strained my back with the warm up Blush so I was worried about it but I'm still here and I can still walk.

I'm going to move up to a harder workout in a weeks. Thanks for all your help so far Thanks
