So, I've signed up for Tough Mudder next year... are there any veterans out there who can give me tips around best gear to wear/training I need to do to prepare/tips for the day etc.
I'm a regular gym goer and runner so although the 12 miles is a challenge I think I'll manage .. it's more the high obstacles that I'll struggle with I imagine.

I've only done the half, was great fun! Good team work is needed. Freezing water took my breath away, bit of a shocker. I found the higher ones easier than the mud mile, that one was the worst for me! Everyone pulls and pushes each other around the course. Triple tie your shoe laces though!

Oh I forgot, work on grip and arm strength exercises.

Are you doing it with a team?

Squaddielife · 28/09/2017 12:17

Yes there's a team of us doing it ... probably about 10 of us.

Ginorchoc (great name by the way) - did you manage all obstables in the half? Were their hydration stations around the course ?

There was hydration and energy bar stations around the course. My dh trained for about 6 weeks solid starting from no exercise at all and he coped with it fine. He can't wait to do another one.

OP, I have just done the Nuts Challenge which is easier but has 100 obstacles, mostly small ones. Some of the hardest ones for me looked quite innocuous - pushing myself up out of a ditch say, because I am short. Whereas things like the assault nets where everyone had to climb were relatively easy.

Agree about grip and arms - practice hanging from a bar, monkey bars maybe, and also jumping and clambering. Upper body strength generally makes a massive difference I think.

Wear tight fitting quick drying running stuff, tie shoelaces really tight, and if possible wear good trainers - I wore trail shoes with deep lugs which gave me so much confidence on slippery obstacles.
