What to wear for Couch to 5k - large chest

malfoyy · 27/09/2017 22:10

I've signed up for a couch to 5k that starts next week. I don't have a lot of money to spare so any advice on what sports bra I should get? I'm 36F.

Also, they said to wear layers but I'm a hot person, what should I actually wear? I don't want to be peeling off layers as a huff up the hill at the back of the pack.

Thanks

The best one is meant to be shock absorber.

I have been running for 25 years, now 38G. I wear two bras, one M&S normal sports bra with a shock absorber type crop top one over the top. Works really well for me.

ShockAbsorber highest impact (there are different levels). Don’t go for pretty, go for hardcore!! (Although SA are looking better these days, but still don’t let anything other than containment be a factor!)

Just bought this as I struggle to get a well supporting bra, had to buy the xl as I am normally a 34 g,. Tricky to get on but overall a good bra

I'm 34G and got this one from fig leaves, they have quite a few in bigger sizes so I ordered them all and did the star jumps test to see how well they performed

ShockAbsorber sizing is a bit weird, so you need to try on (either go to shop or buy from somewhere with good returns policy)

But if money is tight, Decathlon have a range

I've bought a lot from Decathlon but not bras, though I have seen MN posts in the past recommending them.

malfoyy · 28/09/2017 08:47

Thanks for the recommendations I'll check these out.

I hadn't thought of one bra over the other either - will investigate- 🙂

Shockabsorber Ultimate Runs bras are the business. I'm usually a 34E but my shock absorbers are 36DD I think.

Definitely recommend going up a band size and down a cup size. Or go try them on somewhere. I always get last season's colours for much cheaper because I'm not at all fussed about how on trend my underwear is!! :-)

Have to disagree I'm not a fan of the shock absorber bras I prefer the Freya ones good price on wiggle at mo and true to size (i'm a 34gg

As the curator of gg's, I hate shock absorbers but love panache sports bras. I'm cold so I tend to go for a long line top that covers my bum (I hate when they ride up) and a short or long sleeve shorter loose top over that.

Best of luck, it's worth the work!

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2017 21:42

Depends on boob shape I think. I'm bottom heavy (grapefruit in socks...) and like Shock Absorber because I bounced inside the moulded Panache bras - and sizing down in a wired bra just put wires in nasty places...

Some kind of compression top helps contain the girls too - then some kind of technical t-shirt and that should be enough if you're a warm person. I do own a couple of light running gilets (Aldi is great) and hanker after a hi vis jacket but apart from the depths of winter just have a compression top plus t-shirt with possibly a light fleece round my waist for after.

Definitely no cotton - tech fabric all the way - and leggings are better than shorts for friction prevention unless you have a thigh gap... despite being a hot runner I only ran in shorts once and spent the whole time hoiking them down!

I love shock absorber. Try others, but always end up going back.

RidiculousDiversion · 03/10/2017 21:47

Panache Shock Absorber in last seasons colours is usually cheap on Amazon, and contains my G cups nicely, particularly if I do up the clip at the back that turns it into a racer back.

Keep an eye on Lidl for running gear - I've tried various places but the comfiest and longest lasting stuff I've got comes from there.

I am a cold person and have a Hind running jumper (recommended on here) off eBay which I find really useful, as the long sleeves keep my fingers from freezing and the hood helps when it's raining.

QuentinSummers · 03/10/2017 21:49

Panache for me, it's awesome.
I would go to h&m and get a running racer back vest and long sleeve top. I usually start out with long sleeves but quickly end up in vest.
Good luck!

TriGirl007 · 03/10/2017 21:51

I use a bra band over the top of a shock absorber (got from wiggle) it's basically a bit of soft elastic with Velcro so could be made a lot cheaper using stuff from sewing shop, it goes over the top to really cut the bounce.
