Cheapish running clothes - any recommendations?

BamburyFuriou3 · 21/09/2017 21:49

I hate what's on offer in my local supermarkets so hoping someone can recommend something online?

I'm new to running and due to weight loss I'm fed up of continuously hitching up my standard leggings, and getting wet in the rain. I'm happy to continue wearing an old t shirt for now though Grin

Anyway - what I'm after is soft (cotton?) Full length leggings with a wide waistband and no ankle zip (I have easily irritated skin and zips always catch). I'm also wanting a high visibility/reflective waterproof running-friendly coat.

Anyone got any ideas of where to go?

Thanks!

Leggings: sounds like ordinary black leggings sold in places like Debenhams or Primark would do you.

Sports Direct for the jacket.

tattychicken · 22/09/2017 03:52

Decathlon does reasonably priced running stuff.

Badgerlady · 22/09/2017 06:07

Decathlon are a large online (and one or two physical) store which sells every imaginable type of sports wear. Their basic stuff if very cheap and not bad quality. Their sizing is on the small side - so if you order go one or two sizes up.

Karrimor are a running brand which again can be found online. They do all types of specialist gear. At the moment they've got a high vis jacket for £16: www.karrimor.com/karrimor-running-jacket-ladies-450737?colcode=45073792

There's also sports direct, but I avoid them!

lljkk · 22/09/2017 08:49

Sports Direct own Karrimor, I believe.

DeepfriedPizza · 22/09/2017 08:58

Decathlon. They are great. I have a bright pink running jacket with hood, the hood doesn't fall down when I run and doesn't turn you into a sweaty mess.

Karrimor running leggings are great. They don't have wide waist bands but they have a draw string which I find better

Chivey · 22/09/2017 09:06

Wiggle is brilliant for online running stuff - their own brand DHB stuff is cheap and really good. Ordinary cotton leggings are not great for running - they'll stretch and sag and fall down! Agree that a draw string is better than a wide waist band.

timshortfforthalia · 22/09/2017 09:07

Decathlon!

palmfronds · 22/09/2017 09:09

Decathlon is great and really cheap. TK Maxx also do a really good selection of sportswear, I get loads of sports bras etc from there.

H&M

I exercise a lot and run miles every week. I really rate their stuff.

Mustang27 · 22/09/2017 09:28

Primark have a cheap running range iv not used them though.

BamburyFuriou3 · 22/09/2017 09:53

Ooh liking karrimor - thanks!

I wouldn't go for cotton, it gets and stays wet and gets uncomfortable.

I agree you should look for leggings with drawstring inside. I absolutely have to have it on all my running bottoms. Those karrimors seem to have it for example: www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-running-tights-ladies-458072?colcode=45807243

Luxembourgmama · 22/09/2017 09:59

I've gotten really nice leggings in primark.

AuntieStella · 22/09/2017 10:02

Decathlon stuff is really good, and it does not have the reputation on employment practices of Sports Direct, who now own Karrimor, but if that doesn't bother you, Karrimor running gear is also good.

Zoloh · 22/09/2017 10:09

I buy the gradient leggings on eBay. There are loads - no particular brand - all about a fiver.

byronicheroine · 22/09/2017 10:11

Matalan! Wide waistband and pretty patterns

overmydeadbody · 22/09/2017 10:13

Another vote for decathlon and wiggle.

PasDeDeux · 22/09/2017 10:18

I'd recommend having a look in H&M.

BamburyFuriou3 · 22/09/2017 10:35

I love Decathalon. I have some great leggings from there; 3/4 lenth, wide waistband with a drawstring, side pocket for ipod and back waistband pocket for key. They are lovely and soft and comfortable too, and only £11.99 - the perfect leggings! These ones

I agree that cotton is not the best for running, especially in wet weather. It's not going to wick sweat and you'll just end up over heated and soggy.

I really rate Decathalon's trainers too. I've had a couple of pairs of their cheapest running shoes (about £10) which are perfect for the gym and OK for road running (the grip is not great so not really suited to wet/muddy conditions). I would really recommend them for beginner runners and once you're sure it's something you'll stick with you can shell out on a decent pair of running shoes

AuntieStella · 22/09/2017 12:16

I've got those, IToldYouIWasFreaky in all the 3 lengths they do them, and in 3 of the different colours. I think they're great.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 22/09/2017 14:04

3 lengths you say? Back to Decathalon for me!

dantdmistedious · 22/09/2017 14:35

Decathlon all the way - their tech stuff is great for the price. I'd get some Lycra leggings though - cotton is going to get hit and sweaty and be horrible in the rain.

I've just got some 3/4 length running tights from there - has to get them fro the men's department though because I like a drawstring waist and there weren't any in the women's for some reason.

dantdmistedious · 22/09/2017 14:36

Itoldyou - I have the men's version of those - they told me in the shop they didn't do a women's version!

Rainatnight · 22/09/2017 14:37

Another one for Decathlon here!
