Where to buy good running shoes

I'm quite new to running and need to replace my running shoes. I'm looking for suggestions on where to buy them but also, in particular, somewhere that can give reliable advice.

I'm not a fan of sports shops so the idea of wandering in to one after another doesn't fill me with enthusiasm. I don't really care about fashionable brands just shoes that are good for running in.

Where do you live? I go to a specialist running shop where they watch me run & then suggest a few styles that I then try on their treadmill & in the street. I repeat those a few times and then usually decide to try something different. I buy the original pair in the specialist shop & then reorder using a website like sportsshoesdirect.com

Specialist running shop, absolutely. Not sonegwrre like JJB or Sports Direct, although I have found Sweatshop to be superb.(in Castleford at least).

In Sheffield I can recommend Accelerate in Attercliffe. If you give us a rough idea of what'd you are, I'm sure someone could tell you where to go.

Yes a proper running shop. They'll assess your gait, suggest a few different types for your style, and will be more concerned about you having the right shoes for you rather than what they cost. Many also let you return them within a certain amount of time if they're wrong as well. There are a couple in Bristol/Bath if you're near there?

Most new runners do v well in neutral shoes, if you've worn out a pair of shoes already you're probably not such a new runner now - take your current shoes with you as the pattern of wear can reveal lots about your running style. I really like Runners Need and sweatshop.

Run and Become in Victoria is great.

Runners Need on High St Ken? Otherwise I'd second a SweatShop (the marathon one at Spitalfields is good if you're ever in that direction) - anywhere that does gait analysis really!

Yes- take your original trainers on, and they can assess from that what you'll need. It's more expensive in s proper running shop, but you save by not buying ones that aren't quite right and never feel comfortable.

There's a good shop in Sheen if you are a bit further out

SquirmOfEels · 19/09/2017 07:53

There are branches of Runners Need all over London.

They've usually got something on sale if you say you want an entry level shoe and don't want to spend too much.

I go to a specialist running shop every 2-3 years to get gait analysis and someone to help me choose. In between, when they need replacing, I buy the same model online - they get updated every 6 months or so so if you buy a 6-12 month old model, they're half the price.
