Can a personal trainer work miracles or is it a waste of money?

Hello, I am wanting to get healthier when the kids go back to school. I am in the slightly unusual position of wanting to put weight ON. I am slim and would love some curves. Have been suggested a personal trainer and weight training would help but I don't know if it is worth the hassle. Need some diet advice too as have been trying to gain weight but all I have gained is a slight belly. Am usually a straight up and down small size 8 and would like to be a curvy 8-10.

I would love an hourglass figure but if that is not fundamentally my body type should I just accept this? Have had enough of eating when I am not hungry! Or can a PT help?

Your food intake would need to support your exercise goal in order for it to be effective. So it might be that you get a training plan sorted first, and then seek dietary advice on how to support that once you know what your activity level will be. It could be about upping (or maintaining) protein intake, as with weight training protein is needed to repair worn muscles (the body doesn't store protein 'for a rainy day' like it does carbs or fats). But you'd need some specifics to get effective advice.

Ok this all sounds good. Suppose I am just worried I will lose weight which is not what I want at all as all exercise and nutrition seems so focused around that.

The priories was meant to read protein btw

Xposts, great food advice thank you. Have been reaching for the chocolate all summer and can't understand why I have gained nothing - am I just burning it off quickly? Also started adding oil to salad, eating avocado, eating more. Nothing!

Puffpaw, I would love to be hourglass!

Are you still more hourglass now puffpaw, if that is not too personal? As in did it work long term?

Atm I'm a bit fat tbh, but I still have bigger glutes and pecs

Ah well it's good that your muscles are still good. I suppose I would want a programme that I would slack off every so often otherwise I wouldn't sustain it.
