Personal Trainer

Who has a personal trainer? Or used onein the past?

I have joined the gym and have been going quite regularly since the start of this year. I like to try different classes, swim (rarely), cycle etc.

Some of the instructors take on personal training clients - I was wondering if it would be worth it for me - financially and time wise.

Any tips on choosing the right one?

No one?

Or all you gym users at the gym? Halo

It was worth it for me. I wouldn't have had the confidence to use the free weights and weight machines without her.

Try watching how they are with other clients, and then have a chat. In my experience, it's very much down to the match of personalities. I don't respond well to being shouted at in any aspect of my life, and the person I have never shouts, but has used their own methods to get me performing better than I would ever have imagined.

Some gyms let you have a free half hour session with the PTs to see if you get on - might be worth asking?

I have a PT and he's fabulous. He has his own little studio so no confidence issues. We do free weights and a little crossfit/HIIT. There's no way I'd try as hard on my own.....

Ah good.

Yes, tomorrow that's what I would like to get into too - the free weights. I feel a little self conscious trying to work it out alone.

maid a private fitness studio sounds amazing - I think mine will be in the gym though.

Might bite the bullet tomorrow and ask about it.

Thanks for replies.

cold If you want to use free weights, and you're not very well-trained in their use, please get a personal trainer. Form is incredibly important and you really need to know what you're doing.

maid is completely right. That's one of the main benefits I've had from my trainer. She'll stop me immediately if my form drops.

And don't feel embarrassed about other people in the weights section giving you advice. My experience has been that the regulars are very friendly and even the biggest body building blokes will only be being kind and trying to help if they comment

I have a PT. I love my sessions with him. I have a condition which makes me very prone to injury, and I'd been through a rough time with it. No way would I have dared to lift weights.
He really knows his stuff and really pushes me to do things I wouldn't have thought to do myself. Before I'd faff around with a bit of cardio, then head to the sauna. Now I do a proper weights session twice a week and two HIIT classes.
I don't know if this is the norm, but mine is into the whole mind/body thing, so we chat about what's going on in my head too.
Definitely worth it if you are in a rut or need a bit of a push IMO.

I have a PT. He's new so was offering a free 30 min session. I clicked with him immediately and have had 4 hour long sessions since. In those 4 weeks I'm going to the gym more, thinking about my diet, I have more confidence in the gym and actually, my head feels clearer than it has done in a long time too.
We focus on weights and I absolutely love it. I find cardio boring so he has introduced me to a whole new way of working out and it's great.
