What do you do to keep fit? Looking for alternative to the usual exercise regimes. Not too good with team sports but definitely like the idea of a social scene connected with alternative exercise. Any ideas out there please? Smile

Dare one mention kayaking today?

Done with people, but not as a team. Good cardio/upper body strength and all done sitting down!

I like weights, if you wanted to do it with other people, you could do a Bodypump class, or circuits / boot camp, or Crossfit.

Climbing?

Rowing?

Paddle Boarding?

I lift weights and I bloody love it. Find a good functional gym that's not part of a chain - they usually also have a good social side too.

Fight Klub!! It's bloody great if you've got a good instructor!!

Fencing
Tai chi

Indoor climbing/bouldering. See difference in strength very quickly. People are very supportive of new climbers, usually very friendly too.

Thanks for your ideas. I will definitely have a look into some of these. I like the idea of fencing, and Flight Klub looks interesting. Will have to see if there are any clubs near us. We go ballroom dancing which is great for core strength and cardio and just want to find something else to do as well. Many thanks Smile

Bootcamps can be great for this. You've obviously got a social aspect to it and they're outdoors. I run ones that are specifically tailored for pre & post natal women (I'm an army reserve/personal trainer/dad) and I'm in Wales but there's loads throughout the country.

Hiking is another great alternative if you like a bit of solo activity with the added option of socialising. Hikers are quite chatty and there are loads of walking clubs/tours all over the country but equally everything can be done in solitude. It can be as challenging as you make it. Somewhere like the Tors in Yorkshire is fairly gentle, even Pen Y Fan in the Beacons is far from impossible or you can go all out for Ben Nevis which is more challenging.
It can be overlooked but it works absolutely loads of stabilising and small muscle groups that are impossible to target in the gym.

Mixed Martial Arts and/or Self Defence classes are also a good way to get an intense workout in and teach you loads of different skills.

Body Pump is so much fun plus a really good work out.
