So I have lost weight recently I am happy at my weight so I don't need to loose weight but I really badly need to tone up.

I just have no motivation to work out I feel tired all the time and lazy! I know if I exercise I will start having more energy but I cannot be bothered! How do I get my motivation going?

The health angle is a pretty vompelling one.
Why not look up the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle, visceral fat, osteoporosis, etc etc.?

You have one body. One. You need to look after it.

Exercise is the best insurance against old age. Do you want to be crippled with health issues and slowly losing health, strength and mobility as you get older? Confined to your house? Suffering with cardiac issues, excess weight, diabetes, thrombosis. If that's not motivation enough for you, I don't know what is!

On a less negative note, you can transform your physical and mental well-being through exercise alone. Take up a 6 week challenge doing something you enjoy and take it from there. Best of luck.

Have you tried yoga? It turned me from an exercise refusenik/couch potato to a yoga fanatic. I love it and it does give me energy when a lot of cardio drains me.

If you just need to tone up and not loose weight, that is a truly perfect form of exercise. You can start with a gentle class where you don't even break into a sweat to see if you like it.

You will obviously need to find something you can enjoy, because I don't think there are many people who keep doing exercise they hate. When it's pleasurable you start to see it as your leisure time, as opposed to another chore. My gym, which has lots of yoga classes on, also has a super friendly community, so these days exercise is never a huge effort because I get to see my friends there.

Plus, I want to live until I'm 120 in good health.

I'm the same op. I just feel so busy all the time it's hard to take up the time.
I did recently discover a clubbacise type class and it's the first exercise I've ever enjoyed but I had an op and am now struggling with getting back into it

Don't exercise take up a physical activity. Pole dancing, swimming, jogging, climbing, ballet, boxing. Whatever it is, don't let it be a chore otherwise Itll never last

Find a friend to go with?

Wolfiefan · 03/07/2017 19:40

How is your diet? I know you said you've lost weight but are you eating healthily? If not that could be why you feel tired.
Find something you love. I am incredibly lazy and given the chance would spend as much time as possible sitting or even lying down! But I love body combat. It's fun and makes me feel awesome. So I keep going.

Sign up for a 5 k race in a few months time and follow a 0-5 training programme. After the first couple of weeks you will get into it and start enjoying it.

Walking with friends - if you are chatting and admiring the scenery it doesn't feel like 'working out'. Add in a few decent hills and a reasonable pace and it's going to be good for you.

Alternatively what about team sports. E.g. Badminton - it's social and great fun.

I'm used to be like this, until I decided to stop going to classes cos I couldn't be arsed and got some DVDs. So as soon as I get up, I put in my exercise clothes, put on the DVD and just do it.

It's great for me as I work from home so don't have too early a start. I think that's the key, finding the time when you can just get on with it.

I have a few DVDs and just put on what I fancy about 3 or 4 times a week. Like you I feel so much better when I do it.

You need to find something you enjoy. Try out different classes and activities, maybe with a friend if you prefer, until you find one you like. It will be so much easier to stick with it. Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies. The posters that said find something you enjoy makes sense the only fitness class I have ever really enjoyed was pole dancing I was completely obsessed with it and of i could have afforded to go more than once a week I would but I badly injured myself doing it before Sad

But it did make me go to the gym only because I wanted to be leaner and stronger just for poleclass. Maybe I will try something else first to get my fitness up then return to pole but I'm just worried about the injuries I think I was pushed too quickly last time perhaps
